Just a bit pissed off with people who are inconsiderate/dumb when picking up their kids from school. Dont they realise that when they wait in the car in front of the gate they are holding up traffic as well as causing unnecessary exhaust emission where kids are congregating??Why cant they just park away from the gate and take a short walk? Walking is good exercise!

Try Sri KL, subang jaya. Stupid parents put Subang Jaya at a standstill, by triple parking! And that's the main road which connects every other roads in subang jaya.

why aren't am I not surprised. Its seen in every school. Basic common mentality for every parent to be selfish.

It always happens in SMK Section 9, Shah Alam. The road is going uphill, a 2 lane going up and 2 more going down which at the end is a really tight U-Turn to go back down. We have 2 gates, bottom and top and from my observation, most parents park their cars on the side of the road from the bottom gate known as gate B to the front of gate A. It really is frustrating because the left lane cannot be used as it's been blocked by the parents especially in gate B where parents just double park there not to quickly pick-up their children, but wait there for almost more than 10 minutes! Even worse, the teachers who are making their way out of school always got blocked by some irresponsible parents who stop their cars in front of the gate which causes quite a big traffic jam in the school and oitside of the school. In Friday, the traffic jam can go down to the intersection in front of the Concorde Hotel.

The other side of the road is the same too, but that one all both side of the road got car parking and you have to drive in the middle of the lines on the road which is seriously dangerous. Further addition, these cars sometimes blocked the other drivers view of the childrens who are intending to cross the road. To make the matter even worst, our school compound is shared with both Elementary and Secondary school. Just imagine...

About the exhaust emission, I have no comment for that. My understanding, I cannot blame too much for the parents to not park away from the school because simply, there's no empty parking space at all except for the one near gate C (very-very far at the back - around 500m of walking) which is not convinient at all.

The funny thing is there's a No Entry sign which is in effect at times when the kids get off school.

Thats exactly what i mean. Triple parking. The thing is that the school is ultimately responsible for the traffic management AND safety of the pupils, and should force the parents to follow the rules(which i am sure is already there), since the parents do not have the brains to think for themselves and their kids. If parking is impractical, then the school has to provide an adequate system to ensure smooth traffic flow.

some of you never heard about kidnapping at primary school. you cant blame the parent lar.
if they dont park near the gate, somebody else will.

If anybody got a solution, please speak out. I am sure the authority would love to hear about your proposal.

1. Have guards to prevent other car from blocking the flow of traffic.
2. Built big carpark for parent car.
3. Allow only bus sekolah to pick and drop off the kid.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.

Same goes to the school, SRJK Yuk Chai at D'sara Jaya, Jalan SS24/1. Try going there when the school session ends. Triple (or maybe quadruple) parking and reducing the already busy 2 lane SS24/1 to single lane for the rest to use.
But why would they care? As long as it is convenient to them, then it's ok...

In my opinion, i think school needs to take into consideration of having huge parking lot (and a shaded one) for parent's car and have some people to manage traffic flow better. But knowing Malaysians (just have a look at Mid Valley Megamall), this may not work...

another classic one is the school across sultan ismail from sime darby building..

Selfish, thick face parents la. When I pick my kids, I usually be there 10 minutes late, no trophy to be the first 50 to get the kids out from the school la. Let the rush subside and they usually subside pretty fast.

It usually happens to Chinese school because the shortage of Chinese school make matters worst. My kids school is overcrowded with 40 students/class and about 10 classes for each Grade. Std 1~3 is afternoon class, because not enough classroom and 4~6 is morning class. 3 grades x 40 students x 10 classes = 1,600 students. And since school bus fare is expensive, most parent will ferry the kids themselves. So we are talking about easily 1,000 vehicles collecting their kids at the same time.

Perhaps I have to put the blame on the school because sometimes the teachers hold the students in their classroom for whatever the thing is, letting the parents to wait. They should be released at 13:20 but sometimes they come out at 13:30-13:40... Now that wait will cause that double or triple parking. So with the teachers let the students go out early, they can actually prevent this irritating and annoying double parking act from these parents...

We have a guard dutying at gate A to manage the traffic but guess what, the parents made the guard like a non-functional robot. They insist it and just park wherever they want.

My suggestion would be releasing the students a little bit early or right on time. Like my Secondary school, all the Form 3s and Non-Science student Form 4 and 5 will be released at 13:20 while Science students go home at 13:50. Should relieve the traffic jam, and it did though just a little to almost unnoticable.

The problem is that most malaysians arent civic conscious enough. Big carparks wont solve the selfish/lazy attitudes. The local state authorities too are to blame for obviously flawed building by laws.

Guards are too scared of the parents to do any strict policing.

I would NOT trust the school bus. Heck, have u seen the condition of some of these buses??? not to mention the drivers??

If someone wants to kidnap your kid, doesnt matter if u pick them up or not. the kidnapper will find a way. Only precaution is to make sure your kid knows preventive personal safety practices. Actually, picking them up after parking the car is safer since the kidnapper can be unseen from outside a car.

The solution is for EVERYONE to be cooperative and considerate. Dont double park bcos the person in front did it. Dont wait in front of the school gate becos everyone is doing it.

Let your kid wait a little bit.

A multi pronged approach may help matters a bit.

1. stagger the release of the various class streams after school.
2. Put a BIG NO WAITING sign in front of the gate. (this may put a bit of shame on those ignoring it)
3. Tell the kids to teach their parents how to behave (may be more effective than any campaign)

Now, if i was the home minister, i'd assign a real traffic cop to each school. No one likes a ticket :)

There are huge traffic police presence at Sri KL's end of school time. And I don't know why, none of them is putting a ticket on each of the parent's car whom made a 3-4 lane road into a 1 lane road. What is the point of having polices trying to get the traffic flowing when these parents aren't going to move their car away.

I say stop blowing the whistles, and start writing a ticket for them instead.

Yes I know Sri KL is a private school, where most of their parents might be VVIPs. But I'm no VVIP, but I KNOW I PAY MY TAXES TOO! especially to the local municipal and to JPJ. And as far as I know there's no VVIP lane on the road.

Usually the VIPs are the biggest culprits. These are the ones i usually go after.

I once saw a dude in front of my sons daycare lose the plot for the very same reason....he took out a bamboo baton from his car and smashed the windscreen of the culprit........it was so cool, and the same time a little scary to see someone lose the plot like that

I have learnt to live in Bolehland, one needs a tremendous amount of patience. nothing else works

For some reason Msian schools have at least 2 gates (in/out) but many schools don't allowed automobiles to go in during drop off / pick up hours. Weird.

the police presence is to make sure no one horns at the cars parked at the roadside. i've seen the parents chit chatting with the policeman. aiya, rather than stress out, just accept the fact and find an alternative route. life's too short to worry about things in bolehland. :)
