Julian, i have been following your thread and what you are doing is good to increase your milage and fuel comsumption, but you are not doing enough...
My V8 3 liter gives me 530km to a RM138.00 full tank.

Based on your quoted mileage, is this based on highway driving?

nope, town and occasionally fast driving at 160km on the MEX highway....

hmm....my turbo 34 does close to 380km's when the light comes on. and since mine is a 1995 model, the light comes on when its at quarter tank. so i can prob touch maybe 450km's if I really go to almost empty. but I dont wait so long, I fill at quarter mark as to avoid fuel starvation. bear in mind, my injectors are about prob 4 times the size of yours.

Julian...i think u need to add turbo to your car la for better consumption hehehe :D

pussy also forgot to say, you must drive like a girl. his E32 consumption is very good, but his E30 consumption is terrible, coz he drives like a maniac in the E30 :D :D

To get there, you will need to do this:

1. Tyres, must be good condition, correct tyre pressure and use Michellin tyres with 'X' marking, gives you 6% in fuel savings.
2. aligment of tyres better have less tow in, use zero toe, better rolling resistance.
3. Engine, make sure proper oil is used,
4. All hoses and make sure no air leak, intake hose, breather hose good.
5. Throttle body clean and crankcase return hose free from sludge.
6. Valve cover and dip stick no oil leak.
7. Service your MAF or AFM with the cleaner form CRC. adds better hp and nice idle.
8. Service your injectors, balance it and do a test leak.
9. make sure your fuel regulater is working plus the vacum hose is good.
10. TPS at the throttle body working.
11. Fuel vapor purge valve is working, if not, can cause rough idle and loss of power.
12. All rib/v-belts working and alternator giving good output charge.
13. battery is good condition and reads 14.2volts when engine on.
14. O2 sensors must be good too and proper readinga achieved.
15. Running gearbox and rear diff with good oil, new at 40k kms is good.
16. Your spark plug gap is good and even burn.
17. check your plug coils also is good ohm rating. check also the rubber boot.weak boot, can cause arching, misfiring.

hopefully this will make your FC better.

yes, yes... se7en must drive with style, show all the other cars how slow and powderful the car is...

e30 ? drive the car like a maniac, cos it has a soul in it !! possessed !! 200km/h easily...

I just popped in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in my tank today. I will do it again for the next 2 tanks and monitor after that.

After Cny, I will rebuild my gearbox and see how it goes.

Turbo? I will give it a pass. I am scare of wrapping a tree coz I am not an experience driver like Ramsing or BlackHowling.

pussy, item 8....who can do it and what's the damage like? cheers.

what about 11...how do you check if it isn't working? throws a code?

you guys are incredible. kepala pusing reading your posts. respect!

Just came back from cny holiday last weekend. I was in Penang and i was so bored and was driving around looking for BMW workshop to get my alternator bearing fixed. At the workshop, I came across a brand new unsed original oem exhaust back box for E34 525i left laying around there.

Someone left it there 7 years ago and never went back to pick it up. The mech offered me at only $300 otherwise, he was going to throw it away. I was so excited and it is expensive to buy it new and you can't find it. I got it installed in penang itself.

I just completed a full tank for pj/KL driving and i drove my normal self which sometimes i drove hard. This time i get 450km with $129. Thats an improvement. The new exhaust is a lot quieter than my old one. My previous one had humming noise during idling. I get much better response espeacially in low and mid end now. It is so nice to drive.

It cost RM35 for each injector, at M Garage. aka BM world

when you acc the key switch, there will a click from it. or when engine running, remove the hose before the switch, then un plug the socket to it, if there is a suction sound, then its working.

I have got my v8, 4l cunsume around rm140 for 580km. Thats not too bad for daily working drive... The v12 5.4l is doing 170 for about the same distance.....

For town drive, the v12..... Sucks the life out of me. Averaging 20l per 100km.

Alan, that's sweet, is it all in the city? I'm getting 340km for Rm100 from my 520i, pure city.. now that sucks!

What ever I have done to the car, the fuel consumption only improved very mild.

I have had radiator water dissapearing problem for a while now. My "COOLANT LEVEL" warning will show up in my OBC once every 1 to 2 weeks after each water top up. My mech concluded that I have a leaky head gasket and it sipped through from 2 locations from the engine head. One was near the firewall and the other was near the throttle body side.

My car has been in mech's place for a few days now. According to him, I have lost quite a bit of compression judging by the condition of my head gasket and the way the car's idles.

I hope after the top overhaul, I will get better fuel consumption and better power.

I visited the mech 2 days ago and I got some photos to share.

Poor thing was "raped".

This is near the firewall side. The water passage was completely ruined and water sips though it.

Yo Uncle Champ!!

Great stuff :) Sounds like the same level of dedication you put into your championship car last time :)

Pussy & Ramsing Taikors

Julian also very gila driver :p He is also known for his handbrake skills :)

It has been a while since my last update. I am glad that I have finally solved this issue.

I have done many things from changing brand new back box, top overhaul, installed new o2 sensor. All that gave me only slight improvement.

About 1 month back, I went to Optimum to get something fixed. Jason was nice enough to plug in his diagnostic machine to see how is the car running. While he was at it, I asked him to look into my o2 sensor (from the diagnostic machine) to see if it is running well.

Jason said that o2 function is not functioning at all eventhough I had a o2 sensor plugged in. We concluded that my E34's (standard spec came without o2 sensor) ECU doesn't support o2 sensor eventhough the wire harness was already there. To further confirm this conclusion, Jason pulled out his E34 M50B25's ECU (Japan spec came with o2) from his own car and plugged into mine and o2 function works (showed in the diagnostic).

I felt like stricking jackpot that day. I went chop shop hunting for an ECU and I found 1 ECU which came from a halfcut with o2. Damage was $450 which is considered good price.

Since then, I have went thru several full tanks.

The result:
Pumped 70 liters ($130 RON95), KL/PJ driving, Ah Pek/auntie driving style, --> 490~500km. (If drive lembu a bit, I will still get above 460km).

I have not tested highway driving yet but I will keep this topic updated once I have done outstation driving.

I am loving my car more now.

ya car looks awsome bro..ya wheels is still on my mind since last TT ... ...yehh thanks for sharing the journey here ...

never ending issues on FC.....

Glad that issue is solved. All I wanted was for my car to run the way it should be.

o2 sensor does make a huge difference. I also noticed it idles better now.

With the o2 functioning, I also get some improvement in throttle responce and slight improve in power across the rpm range espeacially on the higher rpm (4.5k rpm and above)

Still loving the rims. Kind of hard to find rims to suit the outlook of the old school.

If I do intend to sell it, it will be within the BMWCM members.
