Hi there,Recently found my gearbox was entering water thru radiator. When drain off the gearbox oil, found it already coklat milk colour already, and the mechanic said need to replace 1 set gearbox! Because of budget tight, may i just flush the gearbox and enter new gear oil? Will got any side effect? Currently the gear still can shift accordingly.

Should be ok to flush and put in new ATF oil. Reflush and replace ATF oil after 500km.

But if the problem of the leak from radiator is not fixed then water will go in again?!?!

..water - metal = not good bed fellows .. if you have spotted this issue on time (mean very early), it may not damage gears/clutch plates, so in that case, just change ATF oil as suggested..if same thing happening again and again, you will end up with destroyed gearbox..literally...

There's nothing much u can do now, change the leaky radiator, flush the gearbox (not just drain and top up) with new ATF... And pray there isn't permanent damage inside the gearbox... The other way is to dismantle the gearbox to assess the damage and possibly overhaul or replace the whole unit.

It would go in again. I think it got another alternative way, is use separate oil cooler for gear box. the left over holes in radiator, just lock it. It would work...

Yes, this would be a permanent fix for those with integrated radiator+oil cooler.. Actually a lot of autobox cars are running integrated radiator+ATF heat exchanger setup... some have been trouble free, some have higher failure rate than others.. Unfortnuately, have heard a few cases for the BMW's...

Yes you remind me that i used to do on my Ninja 4x4 when after crossing the river in the timber camp at Sabah 10 years ago.

yes you are right, its better to run the ATF cooler separately but finding a suitable spot to fix the cooler is a problem espc. if you have the 6 cylinder. if you want to go this way, you need to compare the atf temp before and after the mod to see if atf temp under control. what is yr mileage now and what engine has it got?

on gearbox part is only luck. if flushing works for you, then just use it to max.
