PETRO-CANADA DEXRON®-VI ATF
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID

Petro-Canada DEXRON®-VI is an exceptional automatic transmission fluid
approved by General Motors for use in vehicles with automatic transmissions.
This unique fluid is specially formulated to provide twice the service life of a
DEXRON®III (H) ATF and offers enhanced performance for both new and
older transmissions. It is designed to protect your transmission through
improved oxidation resistance, friction durability, shear stability and wear
protection to help meet warranty protection requirements in late model
vehicles. Designed to provide responsive shift feel throughout the life of the oil,
Petro-Canada DEXRON®-VI ATF consistently protects your car and truck
transmission longer than all previous DEXRON® type fluids.

Petro-Canada DEXRON®-VI ATF was developed in conjunction with General
Motors fluid design criteria for all 2006 and beyond model year vehicles with
automatic transmissions. General Motors recommends the use of
DEXRON®-VI for all automatic transmissions including those prior to 2006
model year. It is fully back serviceable where the former DEXRON®-III(H),
-III(G) and -IIE specifications were recommended. Meets GM latest service fill
specification, GMN 10060.

in KL, a bottle of 1 litre will cost around RM 60. However, not easy to get the 1 litre bottle. it usually comes in 20litre square container.

Did anyone of you try ZF brand before?? My mech get this oil from W.Malaysia. . The supplier told him ZF can be use for BM gearbox. But I don see any AFT D III written on the label??? Just wondering OK or Not.

I change ATF oil when my milage reach 57k. Now almost clock 60k. So far not think happen and I hope nothing will happen after read thru this thread.... Scary man.... RM27xxx, not only GB kaput, I kaput also..

I agree wit Juon Powerblow!!.. No such thing lifetime oil. I checked with my pomen that we need to change gearbox oil every 30K. Plus the auto filter.

I don't believe in lifetime oil also, but check out this stat from my bmw n my bro bmw:
year model 1996 , change GB oil every 40k/50k km, GB still kaput at around 160k km
year model 1999, never change GB oil, GB still smooth, no problem at 225km
year model 2001, never change GB oil, GB still smooth at 136km n counting..ting..ting

Changed my ATF (with gasket and filter) using Esso ATF LT 71141 yesterday at M-Speed, USJ and can feel a slight difference in the gear change and the car was smoother. Total cost was RM600.

As I understand it, any thing mechanically design and need the help of lubricants you will always need preventive maintenance programme. Our gear boxes would require an ATF, filter and gasket change.

Ah Meng told me it would eventually fail also even with regularly changing the ATF so I just go for a total overhaul.

Guys,

After reading all the post, I just realize what happen to my gearbox previously 1 1/2 years back. mine is 328i gearbox, not very sure about type because of never view it. Did change my gb oil in sg.petani at one workshop claims that specialize in bmw. So after that, feels nothing different. Fair enough because at that time I don't really bother about that. Still zero knowledge actually.

After a 2 month if I'm not mistaken, I have to change the whole gearbox. The reason is because of my reverse gearbox can't be used at all. Only emergency gear. Drive with that condition all the way back to KL and replace the whole gearbox.

After that, realize that mechanic used cheap gb oil. Can't remember the product name but pretty clear that oil is cheap when I paid.

Just to share and don't let yourself in my stupid position. Not good for pocket and car.

Hi,

I am thinking of doing an atf oil change. Model is E46 2003 318i @100K km. Should I use the esso LT or the dexter atf oil? Anyone know where is a good place to change in Penang and where to get the atf oil?

Thanks

before you resort to change the gb oil, lift up your car to see the label sticker on your gearbox. different color of sticker mean the gearbox are produced by different manufacturer. there are 3 main supplier of of BMW gearbox..ZF, GM & Getrag and each manufaturer require different spec of GB oil. that why you have Esso spec, BMW LL spec and etc.you can't afford to simply pour in any GB to any GB and that explain why some have problems and some don't face the problem after GB oil change..BTW, you can check your GBox spec by tracking your VIN no..

Thanks fire. When I get the specs all sifu's kindly help me determine which oil to use.

Thanks

Hi After readin my VIN number and type into link provided, I have found my transmission type to be A5S 390R. So which type of atf oil suitable for my model.

Thanks

how to locate VIN no.. Can't find... VIN no sample
then how to find transmission type base on VIN no..

TQ

Transmission Identification
BMW automatic transmission are manufactured by two suppliers for the US market:
•
Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen: Commonly referred to as ZF. ZF manufactures
both manual and automatic transmissions.
GM Powertrain - Hydramatic: Hydramatic is a manufacturing division of General
Motors located in Strasbourg France. Hydramatic supplies automatic transmissions
to BMW for four and six-cylinder vehicles.
BMW has developed an internal numbering system for their transmissions for parts ordering,
information research and identification. Also each manufacturer uses their own internal
identification system. Here is a breakdown of these identification codes:
Hydramatic Transmissions have internal designations as well, however there are not used
often.
