have been driving the three pointed star for so long never had occured to me any gb headache, recently bought a 325i e46 thinking of enjoying the so called 'the ultimate driving pleasure', can any sifu out there explain why the bavarian motor work designd such a wonderful engine i ve ever driven with 'such a gb', sigh

my gearbox kaputed few days ago on our way back from kuantan. it jerked and shifted down to 4th and stayed there, with a warning light (a gear wheel with exclamation mark inside)...changing to manual doesnt solve the problem.

it goes away a while if u switch off the ignition, but the gear will 'slip' if the throttle pedal is floored suddenly. it also tend to happened during uphill climbing.

gear oil recently changed.according to spec.but i guess when it comes to 200+k km...........................

has anyone done a full manual gearbox transplant before?

is the manual box reliable...?....say,as reliable as japanese cars?

the 6 cylinders are too hot for the tranny to handle...thats my humble conclusion.........and our weather...

musclehedz,, very nice explanation...kat malaysia i think 15k to 20k maximum to change the atf. because malaysia the weather sangat panas and always jam.

Hey Taggnas, just wanted to find out if this was your 1st or 2nd oil change??

I did my first at 60,000km. Car now approaching 110,000. Ah-Meng at MSpeed was too scared to change for me. Car is E46 325i. GBox feeling sluggish and I believe an oil change will freshen things up abit....

Changed my ATF (with gasket and filter) using Esso ATF LT 71141 yesterday at M-Speed, USJ and can feel a slight difference in the gear change and the car was smoother. Total cost was RM600.

As I understand it, any thing mechanically design and need the help of lubricants you will always need preventive maintenance programme. Our gear boxes would require an ATF, filter and gasket change.
