My billing date is 23rd of every month, this unauthorised transaction of few hundred Ringgit was on the 24th of Jun, in my July statement which I just received yesterday. Ample time for the culprit to get away with it.I know the card issuer won't do anything to the culprit because worse case, they just claim insurance.Should I make a police report? I doubt the police would do anything as well. The transaction is for purchase of some mobile communication item which if need to trace, its pretty easy for the telcos. The bank just asked me to fill in a dispute form and ask me to wait for 2 weeks for their fraud investigating unit to investigate... which I think its to satisfy their insurer while the convict is still at large.2 weeks from now, they will only come back with 2 possible answers.. 1) U need to settle. 2) U can ignore the itemAny bright ideas? Thanks.

They can clone the card but the signature can never be the same.

so, don't have to worry about paying.

The card was obviously cloned. Hope you have cancelled it. You shouldn't have to pay

A credit card do not need to be cloned in order for a transaction to be charged to it. Card cloning is only required for "Card Present" transactions e.g. Over-the-counter sales.

Online Purchases, Hotels Charges, Car Rentals Charges, Standing orders, Auto-debits, MOTO (Mail Order, Telephone Order) and other such transactions do not require the card to be physically present for the transaction to go thru and are termed as "Card Not-Present" Transactions. All that is required are some essential data esp. card Number and CVV2.

In any case, if dubious charges appear on your card statement, you are allowed to challenge the charges by entering it in dispute. The Card Issuer will then carry out an investigation. Typically Card Issuers will quickly enter the amount as in dispute with the Merchant. The Merchant has 30 days to prove otherwise. If the Merchant fails to prove the validity of the transaction, it will be net off and the dispute will be removed from your account.

In Malaysia (and as in many other countries) the Merchant still bear the full liabilities in the case of a fraudulent transaction despite the latest anti-fraud measures and its contractual changes.

In any case, if it is proven to be true, your credit card data has been compromised, the Issuing Bank will or should take immediate steps to change the card.

I have such transaction before. disputed and didn't have to pay anything. Don't think they would want to risk losing a big customer like you over few hundred ringgit.. haha

ps: the disputed transaction was an online transaction..

No need to pay, there is a clause in your agreement to cover this crap. Let me guess, you kena from HBSC ah??

My advice for you is to switch to Citibank. They have the best anti-fraud unit in the banking world. Their response time in detecting fraudulent transactions is really commendable. I've never had any fraudulent tranx printed on my statements with Citi, that would be bleeding SLOW. They'd call me to verify & then proceed immediately. I remember from my days working there, the fraudulent transactions used to be at a very minimal level. I think at the rate that they were going, it should be almost non existent now.

As you all can see in the responses above, nothing is done to address the root cause, which is to locate the culprit and penaliase the culprit for his/her wrong doing. I'm sure this is not his/her first or last attempt.. why the law enforcement folks allow this to continue? Its totally unhealthy!

What is the difference of asking the Rakyat to keep themselves off the street to avoid handbags being snatched? Is that what everyone should do? Stay away from the streets and playground? Locked inside own house?

But if people are allowed to be pushed off a building and blasted in C4, this is kacang la. Malaysia Boleh!

No Citibank for me. I hate them! Farking denied my application and demanding a Form-J. Very prudent bank though, they immediately disturb u if no payment one day after due date. Very prompt! I don't need them to be constantly on my back asking for money..

You'd never know, but imagine the possibilities. It could ultimately be classified as insurance fraud:cool:

Anyway, KNN lu la... go join politics better. Tokkok so much for what??:reddy:

Wonder how to trace the culprit while they are using your ID as their ID to forged the card. Anyway, I don't think citi is bad, their service is up to above standard. Like what climenta said. Due date is due date, any party would ask for their money also if they haven't got it after the due date. I guess it should be the same to you. :)

Your statement is incorrect. There are many measures working in the background that you may not be aware off. I would have to spend several days and night telling you about them. I have been involved in many of these including cloak & dagger stuff.

But there's a crook born every minute.

To trace is not difficult because when electronic items are bought because warranty card needs to be filled in even though some don't, or via the delivery address of furniture purchased, and if its for mobile phone, the seller definitely know the IMEL number of the set and get the telcos to trace what SIM is it using, what phone number and even location. Some use for pump petrol and if can get a warrant to inspect the kiosk CCTV, vehicle registration plate can be seen. What is so difficult?

Why none the above is being done? Simple.. who bear the cost of investigation? and what productivity index to use? The cops are better off setting road blocks or chicken raid, now that's productive~! KNN!

Just hope what saat said is true.. and the bugger must be nailed and be scrutinised by and be subjected to justice!

Meanwhile I will just wait for the bank to call and informing me the waiver..

Thanks for participating.. :D

Enuf Ranting.. :D

Back to work.. :D

The worst case is always when the culprit has possession of your card and made a physical transaction with it. The card issuer will try to pin the blame on your for such transactions based on the card agreement clauses. Our CCs are very hard to clone with the embedded chip in them. If its an online purchase via someone taking the details from your card + CVC number most certainly its not your fault and the $$$ will be refunded back to you after a few weeks. The issuing back is able to trace if the transaction was a physical one or online one. Usually for online ones, they will call you to verify if you made the purchase esp. if you never bought anything online from the merchant before. Also you mentioned you had a Direct Access CC. If it was direct access, then it's been blocked automatically from online transactions (you'll need to apply for a special virtual credit card from them to make online purchases), meaning, that the transaction may have been a physical one.

My credit card been cloned before. When the bill came I was so shocked. This person used my credit card to pay for his new sports rims, tyres, petrol, groceries amounting to RM7K. I filed a report to the bank and I listed down the transactions that didn't belong to me. After a few weeks I got a full waiver on the listed item. At the same time the bank cancelled my credit card and replaced with a new one. All was done within a month. No big deal.

...I lost my card or more so left it behind at the counter of BHP in Kg. Kayu Ara, only discovered a few days later that its not with me and reported..trace back to BHP as the last place I used. Statement came ,got 4 transaction all at BHP for RM50 per transaction, call up bank as to why they never capture it...they say bcos its done at counter and not at pump but I said its still a petrol station so when do they know whether its for petrol or other things...they insisted I had to pay up as they had proof that i used it and send me copies of the transaction slip, guess what? all 4 transaction slip not even one is my signature and the best part is all 4 different signature..wtf!
Made a big hooha and threatened them that I will write to Bank Negara bla bla bla..and then only they say out of goodwill they will waive it...actually there is a clause by Bank Negara where it states the bank is liable for up to x amount, recently there was this case where this lady won using this clause ...

Yep! hate the Direct Access virtual CC for online purchase.. never use before and don't intend to use... so maafan!

This is my other credit card (foreign bank)... too many :p .. sometime lost track. In fact when I saw the bill, first thing is to look for my card and it wasn't in my wallet.. Wife asked "What u looking for?".. I said "Nothing!" She probably thought I went cuckoo.. :p what a stupid answer I gave which can instigate into something more serious from her..

Then I called the customer service and find out what's the last transaction.. lucky it was at the Slutty Six Sense outlet.. :p then I thought I left the card there.. after gathered my self, realised the card was still in the jeans i wore that night.. :p

Last month also I lost the card but found out I left it in the ATM machine when doing a cash repayment.. :p Yes! I lost my card almost every month or other month.. :stupid:

Damn absent minded... very old lio.. better not drive too fast.. :p :D

The clause states otherwise... In the same scenario highlighted in red above, if the transactions have been proven to be fraudulent, the cardholder is only liable for the 1st x amount, remainder will have to be borne by the bank.

There is of course a time limit on how long a report must be made upon losing your card:)

Recently, after a trip back from Thailand, HSBC called me the very next day and asked if I had done an online transaction to buy some stuff from US, I said no and they said most probably your card is cloned. I remembered using it to pay for a dinner in Thai. Anyway, they issued a new card and cancelled the old one. I have been using HSBC for the last 10 years or so and have found no problems with them. Any purchase made above 2k, they call you to confirm.
