Just curious, which center resonator was removed in the install? From the pics of the performance exhaust, it already deletes the center resonator before the muffler. Was it the twin cats in this pic?

This is the stock exhaust. Notice the center resonator just before the tailpipe muffler

This is the std install of the BMW Performance exhaust with the clamping bushes in place just after the twin cats. No more resonator in the center as the stock BMW Performance exhaust is designed as such.

Great pics! If you look at the second pic, the 325 does not have the secondary cats but has the long centre resonator after that. So if you look at the third pic, the exhaust on the 325 will look exactly the same but minus the secondary cats

Also, because the 325 does not have the secondary cats, the pipes run in parallel all the way to the centre resonator. If you look at the BMW Performance connecting pipes, the two pipes diverge to fit the pipes after the secondary cats. That is why for the 325, some modification is needed to fit pipes that run in parallel to connecting pipes that diverge :)

Such interesting stuff - you guys are very poisonous! :p It's amazing how E46F has all these facts and photos ready to spring on us. :top:

Ah right, I kinda figured that just after I posted my last post.

E46F's statement that the power is best felt when mated with the performance air intake is what a lot of fellas elsewhere have said. Would appreciate any more feedback you have after some time and more driving.

P.S. Was the install done at Fred's place or did he have to subcontract?

because welding was required, it was sent to an exhaust shop...however, if we had more time, we could have revised the pipes in a way that enables the clamps to be used

Hahahahaha... Oh, you dunno half of it, he's been like this since the Honda days! That's why if I have any problem with my car, I usually call him before I call BMW. By the time I call BMW, I sound like an expert, they take me more seriously, heh.

Well, I would imagine that welding is a more fool proof and permanent solution compared to the clamps actually. Hence, I think you did the right thing. The drawback though is it would be difficult to revert to stock when you want to sell the car. Yet again, the mod is minor and buyers wouldn't mind so much esp if it's an original BMW Performance item.

Actually clamps if fitted properly work just as well and provide you that added flexibility in case you want to remove/ make changes to the exhaust

I would personally go for clamps whenever I can

she said exhaust is bearable which means pretty good :)

Hahahaha, that's good.

But, I'm a bit disappointed that the performance gains seem to be so little, even with removal of the resonator. For me, the actual no. of ponies don't matter as much as the engine being revvier as a result cos that's what I experienced with the air intake, that was just rewarding enuff for me.

Guys check out this interesting thread on wheel weights. All the superlight weights battling it out for the trophy. The LM-R's are still my fav design.

GeekinE90, I need to do a visual comparo of your performance air intake against mine. The E90post forum fellas keep referring to a "rear" port below the windscreen which sucks in more air or improves air flow but I don't recall seeing the same thing as what they have on my intake. You notice theirs is a lot flatter and bigger with a shotgun hole in that area? I'm hoping mine was installed properly or came complete. Yet again, I can identify the benefits our US / Canadian breathren are enjoying. Also, they have giving rave reviews on the BMW Performance Exhaust... you gonna do it?

Haiyoh JPB, tear out a Nike ad from one of your GQs and put it on your fridge door. Stare hard at it tomorrow as you drink your morning coffee. Pick up your phone and dial Fred. Fit the perf exhaust, fill your car with V-Power, fill yourself with Red Bull, and take her up GohTongJaya flat-out screamin'. Then surprise us with a WAW! post. Then, do the HiOP when the gear arrives. Live like the bachelor you are and make us all green. Kill us poor married sods all!

Why must wait for Funj? He beat you to the E46, then the E9x, now mods too? :D

Hahahahaha... someone has to make the first dive, he's older so he has the honours. BTW, I think I was the one who beat him to the E9x... :D

:D He did, did he? Still, you sound like you're chomping at the bit to pull the trigger. Would be wonderful to hear you wax about the way the perf intake, exhaust and HiOP remap work together to raise your pleasure in your E92 to a new high. No better opportunity than here and now, bud!

Will you be there?

Hi this is my first posting. I will be at Fred's place tomorrow (friday) 3pm. Kevin, will you be there? I am interested to fit the exhaust but just worried that the sound would be too much to bear. Wondering if you can allow me to check out the real sound from your car tomorrow?

Thanks!
