So sorry to hear such a bad news..

That's why I did not even try to avoid from hitting a committing suicide dog during last hari raya drive from Klang to Kuala Selangor. If I hit the brake, most probably the wira behind me would have kiss my backside. If I swerve, don't know I would hit or what would hit me on the left lane. The result is the White Knight is left with a hole in the front bumper and probably a dead dog.
Thank God driver and passengers are all ok.

This is applicable to dogs and other similar/smaller animals. But if cow ... how aaa. I guess nothing much, just say your prayers, heheheheeee.

And what happened prior to the impact?

Car was believed to have skidded and hit the rear of a parked trailer sideways. It's driver error (at speed).. Point of impact is the left rear passenger door. May have ruptured fuel line. According to the roadside stall operator who pulled the driver out. A small fire started almost immediately upon impact. Moment after the driver was out, the flame got bigger and engulfed the whole car.

wah, crash n doom news.....]

i rolled over a cat once and could feel distinctively the wheels going over the cat....twice after the cat decided to bolt across the road without warning in front of my car.....i was travelling maybe 60kays tops ( housing area ) and had no event any chance to react let alone brake! I stopped the car and held the wriggling body.....bloody mouth and laid it to die beside road. No good feeling but lucky no nitemares.

Anyway, if its a sizeable animal like a cow or water buffalo - try to avoid hitting it but of course provided u can do it safely without collecting a car or a tree in the process!

on fires, and that can happen on any cars - how many of you carry a fire extingusher IN THE CABIN, say UNDER UR SEAT? Putting in the trunk is.....useless in event where pile up and ur rear boot cannot be opened!

Drive safely, brothers!

on that note....

where can we get a good fire extinguisher? i know there is a place for it under the glove compartment....

just don't know where to get a good one....

anyone?

In some countries, car fire extinguisher is compulsory but for us here, it is considered as luxurious accessory, or even extra burden.

Anybody has experience keeping one? How much? How long can it last knowing half of the time our cars will be parked out under the hot sun.

You can get it at Brother's, about 30 bucks or so.

Mr President, so what is your tips on this?

More than 90% of road accidents are due to driver errors.

The driver claimed to have lost control of the car due to an animal crossing. He probably tried to do so, but at what speed?? Probably way above the speed limit for him to totally lost control of his car.

The other stuff is about our standard of driving. Most Malaysian drivers are seated wrongly, utilising wrong steering techniques and lacking knowledge of vehicle dynamics, let alone the practical experience of dealing with emergency situations.

How do you deal with a big animal crossing your path of travelling? Have anyone done an emergency avoidance exercise? Do you know what to do when your car over/under steers? Before that, how many have experienced over/under steer? From my experience, very few did and the few that thinks they experienced over steer actually had understeer. How do you know when you have reach the limit going into a corner?

So my advice is for all drivers to learn the proper way to drive which consists of the following items such as seating position, braking and steering techniques, emergency car handling and etc etc. You will be surprised how much better and safer a driver you can be, by learning these stuff which should have been taught in our Driving School. It does not have to be BMW driver training, some other manufacturers (Toyota, Mercedes, Audi and etc) do also offered some sort of driver training modules including Bridgestone.

Try to attend one (best if you attend BMW's Training as it is the best!), it might just save your life.:top:

Cheers

the recommended sitting position and the driving/emergency car handling techniques are well worth the time and effort to learn. Salut to the "teachers"

Talking about fire extinguisher ... yesterday I saw one E Enam Puluh at Subang Toll with fire extinguisher exploded in his rear boot. If not mistaken he was carrying 2 3 normal house/office extinguisher. I think the office model cant stand the heat/vibration.

Poor guy, the whole boot turn into yellow powderish colour. Wonder whether he's in this club or not.

Agree. But even with good tyres and brakes, in this kind of situation our spontaneous reaction it so avoid the animal and end up in the drain or hit the other cars around us. Any tips on that?

drive at a speed that you can control in (if any mishap shud happened) .... remember tht speed kills, no denying tht but at less than 60km/h can also kill if you cant handle tht speed......:listen:
