Sunday October 18, 2009 Three killed as car skids to avoid hitting catKOTA BARU: Three people, including an American, were burnt to death when the car they were travelling in skidded and burst into flames at Km 2 of Jalan Kota Baru-Kuala Krai, Bunut Payung, here early Sunday. The victims were identified as Tengku Shamsu Tuan Ibrahim, 25, of Tanah Merah; Diana, 22, of Ketereh, and American citizen Gonzalez Christopher, 30, an oil rig worker in Terengganu.Car driver Tengku Ahmad Nazim Tengku Azizan, 30, suffered burns on his legs, arms and body in the 4.30am incident and is being treated at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital here. When met at the hospital, Tengku Ahmad Nizam said they were on their way from Pasir Mas to Kota Baru after stopping by at an eatery in Jalan Pasir Mas-Salor at about 4am.He said upon reaching the Bunut Payung bridge, he lost control of the car when he tried to avoid hitting a cat which was running across the road.“I passed out soon after,” he said.Kota Darulnaim Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Ghani Mamat said the department received a call at 5.15am and dispatched two fire engines and 12 firemen to the scene.Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a 42-year-old man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding rammed into a bus at the Wakaf Siku junctions about 11am on Sunday.-Bernama

we have all heard the saying that life is short; but when you hear cases like these, it is much shorter than we expect..

For this kind of situation, I think the best thing to do is to hit/kill the animal rather than risking our lives.

So sorry for the families of the victims... that cat is really living up to the saying that they have 9 lives.

It's sad to read things like this happen.. However, it also shows how unprepared majority of our drivers are in emergency situation. Our formal school education is not where it used to be. Our driver's education system is even worse...

Are we driving faster than we can react? are the vehicle and tyres up to par to such situation. In situation like this, the tyres plays a determining part. Good tyres can still provide u with the traction to get our of from trouble. less than good tyres will just lock up and u say hello to the armco and trees...

I also know even in this club, ppl don't think good tyres are worth the price.. I see it as buying insurance. any tires can get u from Point A to Point B. But it takes only 1 emergency to stop u on your track and u may never see Point B.. Just because of your tyres..

Think about it.

No matter what sort of car you are driving whether it is a RM 1 million sports car or RM 25,000 saloon car remember that it is only 4 tyres that is holding your car on the road and 4 sets of brakes to stop you and not any extra. So never compromise on the tyres or the brakes, use the best if possible.

Agree. But even with good tyres and brakes, in this kind of situation our spontaneous reaction it so avoid the animal and end up in the drain or hit the other cars around us. Any tips on that?

my spontaneous non-reaction is to just floor it and hope the cat crosses safely....

had one incident, a cat dashed in front of me whilst doing about 100km/h...... langgar je..... that's why i'm missing a vent cover down there at my front bumper.... anyone got extra??

Last time my E36 killed a dog while doing corner at bout 80kmh. Cant brake too hard or avoid the dog coz got incoming & trailing cars. Just hit it & lost my fog lamp & air duct. The dog partner just mourning by road side:smokin:

I read the news with interest.

First of all my condolence to the victims' family.

Secondly, about the cause of the accident. Was it really about the cat?

How fast was the car travelling? So fast that it skidded till the impact force cause a fire which ultimately resulted in the reported deaths.

Think about it.

Cheers

I saw the visual of the car. From my guess, it's a Malaysian car. I've heard the same incident (cause of fire) that involve the same car model. Is it a coincident or there must be something wrong. Something to think about too.

Condolence to the family too.

Gen2 ah??? :p

Anyway, car catching fire after collision happened to most cars.. depending on point of impact... BMW oso can catch fire is the collision broke the fuel line and sparks were created...

Bro Fabian, you watched to much of Fast & Furious I think ... little bit bang, will explode one, heheheee.

Mr President, so what is your tips on this?

....at the end of the day the BIG question is whether you are ready to meet thy maker....

So sorry to hear such a bad news..

That's why I did not even try to avoid from hitting a committing suicide dog during last hari raya drive from Klang to Kuala Selangor. If I hit the brake, most probably the wira behind me would have kiss my backside. If I swerve, don't know I would hit or what would hit me on the left lane. The result is the White Knight is left with a hole in the front bumper and probably a dead dog.
Thank God driver and passengers are all ok.

Well, I happened to witness a bmw in flame before after a side impact collision... Driver managed to get out before the whole car was engulfed in fire...
