Hello everyone! I'm kinda new here, so excuse me if there's any mistake that I've done. Well, this isn't really the car I drive everyday, it's my mum who drives it, but I drive it once in awhile too! Since I just joined this forum, thought it would be nice to start off with some photos of this car. Most of the car is stock and we owned it since new. The car is a joy to drive, with lots of power, although it's now giving my family a lot of problems. I.E. Aircon doesn't really do it's job on hot days, the dashboard lights don't light up at night, the right side low beam lights don't work, the car jerks once in awhile as you drive it (different mechanics have inspected it, no one can resolve the problem), A-pillar trim inside the car is coming out, the OBC screen inside the car has lost it's pixels, the digital clock is very dim, etc. etc. Hence, in Dec 2009, we placed an order for a Platinum Bronze w Saddle Brown interior BMW 323i E90 LCI. This car will be sold sometime after the new car arrives in March 2010.Specs;1994 E36 BMW 325iAutomaticLaguna Green MetallicBlack cloth interiorBlaupunkt Casablanca CM62 radio (stock)The only aftermarket item I can think of on the car is the alarm system. Some crap system from China.P.S. What do you think is the current market value for this car?UPDATE: New car's photo gallery. The car earlier than expected. It arrived 3rd week of January 2010 and everything was done and the car was collected on the last Friday of January, in time for Chinese New Year. The car has been good so far, no complains! Great machine, the old car was sold to a dealer in Bukit Mertajam, Penang for RM19,500.http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4042/4366274653_cbd0241ab9.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2751/4367040032_1950709636.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4043/4367049252_2a1209ddcd.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4070/4366309055_f13216931d.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2678/4367064026_af5cddcc0b.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4067/4366323379_1b2f675e81.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2759/4367073976_5a70ae9206.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4070/4367077268_1879f043af.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4016/4366333591_fe719ba548.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4054/4367083720_d22a2f4450.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2764/4366339801_f4c474aa00.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2777/4367090704_9b36cdde3f.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4048/4366346777_44b5d57f6e.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2728/4366349807_dc1e9c502f.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4032/4366356757_d480699a47.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2787/4366360991_ef15ec224d.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4062/4366367201_4cba810609.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4060/4366373075_06fac83e0b.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4008/4366378727_13c6490b32.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4018/4366384793_74a9aa8bdb.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2725/4366392563_5ee875c2cd.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2775/4366399831_3a46ede07b.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2773/4367153136_b22e49daa8.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4026/4366413249_c461dd8aa8.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4062/4367169990_fc349f357e.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4058/4366431911_5ec9d5a46c.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4014/4366438003_95d65cf929.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4051/4367190448_9c22a03533.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4004/4366447629_f432fd1c20.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4011/4367199512_b07c9e3404.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4016/4367206996_6f70ea2f89.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4034/4367214740_dc4ba92733.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4039/4367219568_ba670f2ba0.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2797/4367224928_f9d8587b5c.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2754/4367228252_8bf52972fb.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2691/4366485071_354a639b4b.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4064/4366489145_9f7dbeb424.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4036/4367240406_ab99efcf98.jpg

Hi there. FYI, the market value for a car older than 10 years can only be determined by the condition of the car & also the accessories that comes with the car. I'd say the range is between 25K to a stock standard e36 to around 40K+ for a tip-top condition car with ample accessories. Hope this helps.

actually, some of the stuff u mentioned, not really hard to rectify. the aircon might have a faulty compressor, or maybe just needs regassing. for dashboard light, might be just the fuse. dim clock, just change the bulb. broken clips on a-pillar, there's a guy in penang call ah chooi. he'll get it sorted out for less than rm50. has the gearbox fluid been changed b4? which mech do you go to in penang? whether you keep the car or sell it, some of these repairs are relatively cheap and will definetely help to boost it's market value.

Just my 2 cents bro :)

Hey. Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't the say the car is in tip-top condition, but AB Penang offered RM16,000 for the car. My friend who works at Kah Motors Penang, has a second hand dealership and he's willing to buy it from us for RM25,000.

I believe the compressor was changed back in 2007 if I'm not wrong, first few months the car was alright, but it's been acting up again. The car will only be hot during sunny days, but let's say, early in the morning/evening times/at night/rainy days the air-con will be cold. In the last month, I've sent the car once to do the dashboard light as well as the headlight, but a few days later, it wasn't working again. Then I sent it to the workshop again to repair the same thing, it was working for sometime, then it stopped working again. All in the month of December 2009. But the rest of the items, dim clock, broken clips, thanks for the solution. So far since I got my driving license in 2008, I've known of no gearbox fluid change at all, before that it was my dad who took care of all the car matters. We previously went to a mechanic by the name of Ah Wai in Air Itam, but now we go to Ah Soon, who actually specializes in Mercs and takes care of the two Mercs in our house, but he does repair other cars too, so we let him do it now.

Thanks for your 2 cents! LOL.

Yea, 4-speed Auto, and for some strange reason, it has Economy mode, Sports mode and WINTER mode. It's a CKD car and it has winter mode. Never really got the reason why it was included. =)

no worries. it can be very frustrating sending the car back in to repair the same problem. For your air con, i dont think it's a leaking cooling coil. Cause if it's leaking, it wont be cold at all. Is the compressor a new unit or 2nd hand unit? Enough gas? Just guessing dude.
If the gearbox oil has not been changed, get it done. Whats the mileage on the car anyway.
when you say the mec repaired the dash lights, what was done actually? was the correct fuse used?
Not bad lah, upon getting driver's license, you get to drive a bimmer liao .hahhahah

Yea. The compressor is a new unit, it's only the recent spark plugs change that we got 2nd-hand units. Ok. I'll see that the gearbox oil is changed in the upcoming service which will be very soon. It's about 144800+km, less than 145000km. He changed the fuse. I guess so. Lol. No la, I drive a 07 CR-V. Not even a bimmer. Once in awhile only I drive this car. Hahahaha.

alexkhoo,
What does your mechanic say?

Perhaps the problem is as simple as the aircon fan isn't running when weather hot :) My car had similar problem and a replacement of the fan resistor solved it. You can even get a second hand resistor from any existing 3 series or 5 series.

Ah. We haven't sent it to a mechanic for sometime now. We originally wanted to send it for servicing, but our new car came very much earlier than expected so I guess no more servicing for the old car, it should now be up to the new owner. Thanks for the advice anyways!

Nice car there alex,

The problem you mention- Have you change the AC resistor(Cheap fix)? That would be faulty & keep the air con blows only air. Check all the hoses etc.

The alarm system- It's not recommended to install the cheap alarm system as it mess up with the central locking. I.e. I've experienced install it to a Japanese car & sometimes the car would lock itself & it's dangerous if you stop at the small shop & get down & leave your engine running & the car would auto lock.Haha. I've experienced it.

Regarding the jerking?- Do you experienced it between 80-90km? or Jerking at between somewhere? As others said- It could be a fuse or lose/faulty connection in your dash as the E36 is getting old.

Z

* Enjoy your car before you sell it.

The aircon actually does not blow air only. Early mornings or during cold starts, the air-con will be cold. If you park it under the sun for more than 5 minutes, the air-con has no sufficient power to cool down the car.

Mmm.....we've experienced auto-lock on our old Volvo 240GL when it used to have an alarm system. But actually this cheap alarm system works well. Originally the car came with Cobra, then we changed it to a Mamba. Then after that the alarm systems keeps on breaking down, we switched to the cheap alarm system and it works well.

Nah. The jerking actually occurs during low speeds, I noticed it happens everytime the car changes gear.

I will! Been driving it to college these few days instead of my CR-V. =) I will miss this car for sure. Saw your profile pic. You have an E36 yourself?

how much u looking for? how many owners and when does road tax expire?

We're not sure of the actual market price. AB quoted RM16k. My friend says RM25k. I'm saying maybe RM20k to RM22k should be fine? We've owned the car since new. The road tax expires next Monday, 1st Feb.

That means there's no leaks in your AC, since it still blows cold air. I would reckon the Fan? I hope you will rectify the problem. I'm not too sure.

Have you change the gearbox fluid? I know BMW recommends not to change it- "Lifetime seal" . Even if you ever ask the shop to change it- Did they use the correct fluid?

I drive an E36 328i spec & Porsche 928 GTS. Use the E36 328 everyday! & weekends- I'll be cruising in a Porsche 928 GTS(Too bad the air con breaks down) - Need to source parts from the states(USA).:D

The car has been sold already so it's up to the next owner to take care of the problems. :top:

To answer your questions, when I sent the car to a air-con mechanic, he said the pipe was leaking, so he inserted more gas and the air-con became cold again.

I don't think we ever changed the gearbox fluid.

Nice combo of cars you have there! Would love to have a look at your 928 GTS sometime, I rarely come across classic Porsches! Why source the parts from the States? Why not Germany?

Hello Alex,

Sorry for late reply- I'm from Brunei BTW- Hehe. Porsche Germany rarely stocks classics cars parts & most parts I bought from USA is either- Left over stock from Porsche (New) or after market. & also much cheaper than the local dealer in Brunei.
