use EBC before.. rubbish !! fouled up my disc's , brake fade and the red stuff was not enough for the merdeka race..

my experince..
i concur.

if you want to go EBC, might as well get a block of concrete and mould it into the shape of your brake pad and slot them in. What utter rubbish. I do not have anything nice to say about them. Will never ever consider them again.

Mated them with my cross-drilled and slotted Zimmermann rotors. After ever 500km, bloody pads will warp them. Driving around with the steering wheel shuddering.

I know, some of you will think maybe it was my rotors that was the problem.

So i chucked the pieces of shit into the rubbish bin where they belong and replaced them with Hawk Performance Ceramic Pads.

Problem Solved.

Stainless Steel Brake line Kit.., anyone using them...

if i;m not mistaken this is da original topic.......and now....

Just to bring this back to topic :

Yes, I use ProRS braided and have no complaints. ( like Ichiwan ) When I took out my ori hoses which were ATE made...they look ok, even after almost 20 years on car......

Out of topic - brake pads. I use Pagid Fast Roads and am suffering delaminating cracks ( the bond between pad and backing plate...) after ONE Sepang session. Btw, I have an uprated servo/mc system plus ATE powerdisc.......

Pagid manufacture fault? Dunno....bought them in UK....

Had my brake lines changed to stainless steel braided more than a year ago and enjoying it.

i think all made also have their own problem defect what we call it so when we encounter this so we scared to use it next time ..... but there are also many good comment also......... UDM also got lots of problem but we still drive one and happy repairing it.... :D :)

Bottom line - Change it if your brakes feel a little spongy when you push the car hard. If you don't feel the brakes being spongy despite pushing the car, then the ori hoses are more than adequate for your driving style.

Hi guys,

Let me chip in some views here.. Not trying to promote any brands here as i believe its agains the BMW club rules, but just want to clear up some doubts and queries the members raised.

-S/Steel Braided Hoses with PTFE (or Teflon inner braid)-

There are many brands available in the market. 2 main reasons why people change them are 1. upgrade reliable stopping power and 2. to replace the worn out OEM hose.

How this is done? Reputable brands like Goodridge (and not BF Goodrich as these are tyre manujfacturer), Earls or APP (mostly jap cars), all used very high quality teflon/PTFE inner braid for fluid transfer and outer braid in stainless steel for proctection as well as minimizing hose swell to give you consistent pedal feel and firm pedal resulting in less pressure loss in your brake lines hence more pressure transfer to your piston caliper increasing stopping power.

2. OEM hoses are not cheap either if you need replacement.. So hence, many people upgrade them to teflon S/Steel braided hoses like Goodridge for additional safety, reliability and longevity.

When choosing a brand of hose to replace, often people only look at the specs or info on hose it self only. The metal fittings and brackets to secure them on your chassis or shocks are equally important. Brands like Goodridge offer very high quality and precission CNC machined to give you the best fit on your caliper and chassis to prevent from oil leak in future. These metal fittings are then given proper galvenizing to prevent rust and durability for a long time too.

And how these metal fittings are made to join the teflon s/steel braided hoses are equally important as this prevent sudden rupture at the join during heavy or emergency braking. All Dot/TUV Apporoved brake kit will have special machinery to crimp/join these fitting to hose then all hoses are subject to at least the pressure leak test or burst pressure test before its pack and sold worldwide, so you are rest assured that you are getting the best and the safest!

All the safe features often found on quality brands like Goodridge or Earls are often copied or immitated by taiwanese brands or even some local brands or assembly, but the copies will never match all the features and quality of the Goodridge or Earls with the peace of mind in safety.

Like what popeadrian said "you get what you paid for".

**Off Thread abit**

There are many compounds available in EBC range and the appropriate range or compound have to be used.

EBC Blackstuff - For OEM replacement and STREET Use only.
EBC Greenstuff - Fast Road use and STREET use only
EBC Redstuff Ceramic - Fast Road use on higher H/P or heavier car. Street use and occasional weekend track use
EBC Yellowstuff R - Ultimate pads for Highly tuned cars for Street or Track Racing Use
EBC Bluestuff - Longest Lasting compound mainly for Track racing only

Some of you may have used the older EBC Green compound made about 2-3 years back which was indeed not so suitable for the continental set up using big single caliper piston. Nevertheless these older compound was very good on the Jap cars with smaller multiple piston calipers.

So for end 2005/2006, many EBC compounds are improved to suit conti cars like BMW, Alfa, Merc now made with brake-in coatings, chamfered sides, slotted, shimmed with a new improve friction material.

As for those guys that had used the EBC Redstuff for MME or other full racing used, you should go back and shoot the dealers who sold them to you :). The EBC Redstuff was never at any time recommended for full racing/competition use. Redstuff was always designed for street use with occasional weekend track days only.

For short races, you should have used the EBC Yellowstuff with maximum Stopping power and enduro races like MME, EBC Bluestuff was the appropriate compound to use lasting 6-12hrs in SIC.
