Some buttons not working on new steering

Just helped a friend installed a paddle-shift based M3 steering wheel on his E46. The car comes with NAV and bluetooth phone function. It was working previously on his old steering but not anymore. So does when the he tries to scrolls up and down in CD mode. Radio function scroll up and down is fine though. Anything that can go wrong? Slip ring malfunction? Need to reset the NAV?Thanks!

To start, you can make sure the signal is advertised on the ibus. you can use navcoder for that

All e46 have ibus network in their car, if the bus is dead even the radio cant work. You just need to tap and monitor the bus.

BTW, need to get a screen that shows steering wheel keypresses..

The navcoder software is free for download but you need to get the interface to PC. There are a few places you can get the interface, resler (http://www.reslers.de/IBUS/index.html) or dimkyy (http://yourbmw.info/).

Updates: apparently its not the steering phone button is not working but the Phone icon disappeared from the NAV unit, hence the button cannot be used.

Any ideas?
