Ade hantu kot. No lah the selector switch must have been moved to the driver side thus activating the feature when you reverse.

Mine 2000 E39 525 UK Specs has this features. The other things may be you would like to explore is the remote control than you can scroll down the glass screen and sunroof by pressing 2 times for scroll down and up. Did programming at AB. It's quite awesome....

I believe you meant press and continue holding the lock/unlock button to scroll up/down the screens.

My E39 525 AB local model has it. with electric memory seat. selector needs to be at the driver side.

Bmw7833, ur right, mine has the similar feature too. Apparently, the mirror moves all the way down to avoid those blind spot areas, n it helps when we're parking near curbs. Fascinating lah...Initially i didnt notice the mirror tilt downwards, but i heard the sound of something moving...so like jakun only looking here n there...then i noticed, it was the mirror...Hats off to German Technology...

OMG.

Lets do a little survey here.

How many of us knew about this feature?
I do. I noticed it as soon as I started my first reverse coming out of the AB parking lot when I took delivery of my E39 in 2000.

How many of us bother to read the owners manual?
I do everytime, even for my rentals. I spend time in the car park to familiarize myself before driving off then bring the manual into the room to read up on it.

P.S.

In the UK, when someone buys a car, the dealer will take time to explain and demonstrate the various features of the car before handing the keys over to the new owner or letting him/her leave the forecourt. I witnessed this.

This is an option which comes with E46, check out your page 53/54 of your manual on how it works.

Haha..that's right. I completed reading the entire E39 & M5 owners manual (PDF) a year ago. Long before i finally took ownership of my E39 just months ago. :)

I found out an interesting this morning in my fren' e39.

The side mirror of his e39 will auto turn down when i put the stick to reverse. Amazing! As my e39 can not do this when reserve! Our car spec are 100% same.

I wonder why? This is set-able by computer?

hi bro, i also wondered when i reversed d car for the 1st time..it is set on yr left or right side mirror selector..selecting the right mirror will engage the system..do give it a try...cheers

BMW 7833,
Not all E39 have this feature. Nothing to do with the computer setting. It has to come with the built-in motor at the passenger side door mirror.

semua boleh lah.. as long as the mirror adjust switch is put to driver's side.. because when u put to passenger's side means designer assumes u can and want to adjust to whatever position u want immediately. If on driver's side means u can adjust driver's side and hence passenger's side is automatically tilted for reverse for u to see the curb or watnot.

Don't know which one is the right one.

But i try in my friend' car that the mirror tilt too downward [useless] so i dont bother the function now.

it really depends on yr situation..just engage it when needed..

i would suggest to keep it engaged as the motor becomes sticky after a while if not regularly used as with any other items. The rear power windows is also one of of those things that gets stuck as nobody really winds down the rear windows.

just tried but cannot dip.
mine is 525 00/05
i read that it can be incorporated with key resetting?

This is not hidden function, as stated in my car manual, quite a handy feature.

Bro, any remedy for the rear window being stuck ? Looks like mine is stuck. Initially the window doesnt goes down, then few days later tried again, it works fine. but now totally no response.
