Guys, I have this problem with my E39 headlights. They wobble and shake while i go on a bumpy surface and its getting quite irritating. I heard its a common problem on the E39 that the white plastic screws for ajusting the headlamps position breaks that causes this problem. Is there a shop i can go to fix this problem? Hope you guys can help out. Thanks

from what i heard....once it breaks you have to change the whole lights?? correct me if i am wrong...

yeah.. thats what they normally say. but on this forum, it says it can be fixed.. so i was just wondering whether any work shops know how to fix em.. http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/headlightadjustment/Adjustment-fix.htm

Yup, can be fixed. Had mine fixed at my regular mechanic. Took him the hold day as he had to dismantle the headlamp covers and sort of "ikat balik" the adjusters. Try asking around for any mechanics at KL who is willing to do it as I am at JB.

hi roland.. thanks for the info.. any ideas how much does it cost and how long does it take to fix? i come over to JB and fix? hehehe :D

A workshop that I went to in BM has a guy hired who does the fixing for plastic parts. But then this is in BM...

All in all he charges me about RM200 for the labour coz I had him replaced the angel eyes with CCFL ones as well. You can PM ycs688. He was the one that installed and fixed my headlamps. Took him one whole day.

thanks roland.. any info on the price of the CCFL rings as well?

I bought the CCFL rings when I was at Taipei during Aug last year. I think it costs me less than RM300 then. You can get it less than RM400 now at Malaysia, I think. It's not the problem of finding the CCFLs for E39s, it's finding someone who is willing to do the installation for you nicely coz the hassle of removing the headlamp covers which need a bit of work, unlike E36s and E46s. For E39s, you need the heat gun to remove the covers. That will take some time and work.

sorry for my ignorance, but may I know what this CCFL is..? (xenon lights?)

Regards

CCFL stand for Cold Cathode Fluoursence Lamp.. Usually come in white colour. They are similar to your house fluoursence tube. CCFL usually come in "U" shape to fit the headlamp. Xenon is HID. They are for the headlight main bulb.

CCFL are usually use for angel eye. :D

bohtak I PM you my mechanic's number in sungai besi. He did mine plus he also polished the insides on the cover.

Hi bimmer73

Can you pm me the number too? My E39 headlights are suffering the same fate. Thanks!

My friend had the same problems. apprently this is common on e39 where they have uprated or non standard bumbpers etc. Go to Raymonds Auto at Sunway Damansara and he should give you a quick fix whcih does not cost much. Note, it is not a permanent fix. Anyway he can give you an opinon on it. Ask for Raymond

Hello Bimmer73

can u pm me your mechanics number, I need to get my E39 head light cover to be polished too as now i think its got a bit light yellowish due to aged. Thanks.:)

most probably the headlight adjusters inside is broken as is made out of really brittle plastic. for the non angel eyes headlights it would be a easy fix as the headlights can be easily disassembled. parts can be ordered through BA as its a oem fix. part number is 63 12 0 027 924.

however, if yours is the CELIS "angel eye" version, be it OEM or hella version, its gonna be a permanently seal unit and to open it would required having the lights bake in a oven to soften the seal. NO replacement parts available from BA, BUT there is still hope as there are 2 companies with parts specially made for us. check out odometergears.com and ca-automotive.co.uk for the parts.

the ones from odometergears at 85usd per side is made out of plastic, it looks the same as the original part in the lights but made out of 20% glass filled delrin. the ones from ca-automotive at 39quid per pair headlights is machined out of aluminum, very nicely done and quality superb. i have the image of the parts attached below.

this should be a permanent fix to the problem, it will be slightly pricey but still cheaper than getting a new set of lights.

i have just ordered a set from CA-automotive, if its not too hard to replicate it at the machine shop, i will let you guys know.

leforte,
have u found any shop to replicate the headlight adjuster?, mine broke recently. how much does it cost to order from CA automotive?

Face the same problem, my mechanic is just to lazy, said broken can't be fix. Anybody know where to fix in KL.
