Hi Folks,

I am driving a '07 - E60, pre-LCI model. Been getting the "Restraint Systems" warning from i-drive lately and managed to find out it was due to battery drain issue. After replacing with a new battery, I am still getting the warning.

Went to do some research and it was due to the Batter Safety Ignitor (BTS). However, I can just replaced the head-unit instead of the whole cable which will save me a lot of money.

Wonder if you have came across any such incident on your bimmer, where to fix it and how much?

Thanks!

BST = battery safety terminal.

The MRS sends a signal to the ignitor capsule during collisions to blow the gas discharge tube and push the tapered B+ cable contact point to behind the spring tabs to prevent further connection.This is a safety overkill by BMW to prevent fire in a collision by disconnecting the battery from the car's circuit.

I think you have to replace the bst and cable as a unit.Or you can try jiggling the whole assembly and see if the message disappears.

I have not come across this issue.
