My car was diagnosed of oil leaking from the vacuum pum. The mechanic told me to replace it with few other oil seal, O ring etc. My main concern in the vacuum pump. Having second opinion for another mechanic and was told that it can be repaired in of replacing which is costly (I know that as I am also survey of the price). He said it leak can be attended too and give warranty 3 months. I know that replacing it would be the best choice but what do you guys think of repairing it. Have any of you done so and does it works and what is the life span? Thanks

I tot diagnosed only can indicate parts faulty, leaking also can show ? when ur mechanic check on the leaking pump, u should ask him show u, cause many mechanic are not trusted because they wan to earn. I still prefer them to show me the leaking parts, then check ur parts price and compared to the mechanic price.

hi friend, about the vacuum pump ,I've done it but the problem keep coming ,so the best way is to replace with the new one,and please make sure the problem, about the diagnosed the leak we can't detected,

Actually, i ve gone to 2 mechanic and upon lifting up the car, both said it leaks from vacuume pump.
One said replace and other said it can be repaired and why need to buy new. New vacuum cost RM1,100 sipa pasang.
I was made to know it actuall cost the most RM800....fuuhh pasang RM300 ....

The vacuum pump can be refurbished provided the internal gasket of the pump (it consist of 2 parts joined with 6 bolts) is replaced and not just the o-ring. My mechanic have done it before but most will just replace it as it requires more effort to repair it.

New unit cost RM750 (E46N42) w/o installation and you may want to change your cam cover gasket(RM220) since it has to be opened as well. Installation cost....depends on where you go. Refurbished will probably cost you half of the new unit.
One thing is, the vacuum pump has very solid built, it is just the o-ring and gasket that will fail especially in our weather.

Thanks Zeedo, at least u give me hope to go through in having it repaired instead of replacing it. Cost abt RM250- RM300.
