Hi All,Recently my E46 was having this, its N42, white smoke coming out from engine! After sent in and checked, mechanic said engine oil leak from gasket, drip down to exhaust manifold and burn.Changed cover gasket rubber, o rings for vacuum pump and resealed vacuum pump with silicon. After all that, smoke reduced, but still having some once in a while.I suspected still small leak somewhere, anybody having same thing here? And is it normal to have some small little white smoke from exhaust? Many thanks

Yes, it does when there leak however the issue should be resolved since you did your repair. Do have it checked see if the smoke are from remaining old oil on the exhaust manifold

could be from the vacuum pump at the rear...dun worry simple fix which shouldnt cost u more than rm120. :)

I changed mine again last 2 weeks..it leaked again..looks like the seals i got from SH werent as good...

Tumpang....

I only get white smoke in the mornings during cold start. Is it the same problem?

Condensation from early morning cold start.....it clears off after the engine is warmed up....

Hi bro...
The white smoke u mention is it coming out from the tail pipe?
Is it early morning start or still coming out after the engines warms up?

If during early morning start it is normal due to out side temperature still cold...
But if after the engines warms up still white smoke comes out from the tail pipe this is not normal...
Do u have to top up engine oil after some times?
Please ask ur mech to check again...

This is normal and shows that ur engine combustion is in good condition...:top:

Dear bro,

I had a brake problem yesterday when I was cruising on the Elite Highway to Cyberjaya. The brake pedal feels very hard. Based on my reading on this forum, I suspect this is due to Vaccum Pum failure. Went to my usual mechanic and he quoted RM1,500 to replace the Vacuum Pump and the Servo Pump. Price inclusive of both pumps and labor charge.

My question is, is it okay if I try to repair the vacuum pump first instead of replacing it? Any workshop to recommend to do it? My mechanic refused to repair saying that engine oil has sipped into the brake servo. Is it necessarily true?

Appreciate feedback from you guys.

Thanks.

another way is if there's water at the tip of your exhaust then it means the combustion is still good.

hi bro sharir...

it's hard to diagnose.. could be both or could be either. Frankly you do not need to change the VP as its a purely mechanical device with 2 o-rings inside it. I just change the O-rings. Can DIY la but takes at least whole day lol...and cost you only most RM30. Try changing the VP O rings seals first then do a complete brake flush with new fluids and all then see if things improve. If not then I guess a new servo would be in order. My guess would be a good flushing job plus o rings would do the thing...servo hardly rosak..

But dont take my word for it...just my opinion :)

Hope this helps...

Agree the best is to replace the vacuum pump o ring. Many of us did it on our own.

If you need a master brake pump, I do have one for sale cheap

Bro,
I ve experience before having replace the seal on the vacuum pump....the mech is in Subang Jaya and cost me abt RM300 and it works anyway instead of having to fork out RM1,500...

Thank you bros for your opinions. I saw on Youtube on how to replace the o-rings of the VP but the problem is taking out the vacuum pump is also a challenge. Unless I'm equipped with all the tools needed, I'd rather do it on my own. Even the mechanic had a hard time installing it. Bro SBB, mind sharing the details of the mechanic who refurbished your VP for the benefits of all here?

One thing I noticed, after I had replaced both my VP (RM485-BA) and brake servo (RM680-BA), my car feels so light and responsive. Does VP influence engine output too?
