noticed one 760iL at Subang Jaya...what is the roadtax ($$) looks like huh?

The N73B60 is 5972 in cc for a grand total of RM15,519.00 p.a.

No wonder there are barely any Dodge Vipers running around Malaysia, the road tax hit for the new SRT-10 coupe (new 8.4l engine) is about 26k

Just to get back on track a bit, the intake mainfold on my 728i is stamped very visibly 2.5/2.8. The 735i got similar? Probably a bit of a give away...

still cant understand why road tax so expensive
whats wrong with having big engines?
its not like we are burning the forest or sumthing isnt it
maybe fuel consumption is a bit high but only marginally higher
say a 523i gives 25 mpg and a 740i maybe 20 mpg or even better on highways
thats only like a 20% increase
but the road tax is like more than 600% increase
this is totally unfair :(

OK here's a clue, the largest engine evil proton makes is 2.0. Funny how after that size cc, road tax rockets up.

Actually, the rise is steep after 2000cc, but after 2500cc, it's even steeper, road tax nearly doubled between E36 325i and E36 328i, and tripled for the 3.2 M3...

I think the road tax law came from a long long time ago, in the 1950s, 60s, 70s... it is very archaic at best.

I hope secondhand car price will go up by next year.. and stop all AP and all secondhand imports.

As for roadtax.. I believe the goverment is trying to keep us away from the huge engine cars..

too bad if the govment trying to keep us away from the big engines..
just had a drive in my dad's e32
the smoothness and sound of the v8 just takes ur breath away
thinking of implanting the v8 in an e30..then dont hv to pay crazy tax anymore..hehe

I would agree that the Govt is trying to keep us away from big engines car but WHY?

Ans: bec big engine cars are supposed to consume more petrol than small engined cars.

BUT my old Merch 3 ltr consumes the SAME amount of petrol than a 1.6ltr wira.. and my 525i consumes less

SO.... IF our superbly competent govt wants to reduce fuel consumption then WHY are they encouraging us to buy Protons!! == ARGHHH

Higher roadtax for big cc is to counter the subsidy given to petrol.

But since petrol (RON95) is now RM2.10 per liter I think it is high time the govt revise the roadtax for cars above 2.5l and 3 liters.

Current rate is

up to 1000cc is RM20
1001cc to 1200cc is RM55
1201cc-1400cc is RM70
1401cc-1600 is RM90
1601cc is RM200+RM0.40per cc so ..1601cc is RM200.40 and 1700cc is RM240 until 2000cc is RM380
2001 is RM380 + RM1 per cc until 2500cc=RM880

Above 2501cc the rate is RM880 + RM2.50 per cc meaning a 2600cc is RM1130, 2800cc is RM1630 until 3000cc=RM2130

Above 3001c the rate is RM2130+ RM4.50 per cc. This is the maximum rate per cc.This means a 3200cc is paying RM3030 and 5000cc is paying RM11,130.

These are for petrol motorcars only. Diesel and SUV/MPV/4WD used different calculations.

its a bloody E23 for goodness sake!!! at original 3.5liter engine, it is considered as antique (more than 25 years.) its eligible for 80% road tax reduction.. just some paperwork and a trip to puspakom.. unless some idiots go and change engine to a M50 paperwork then too bad.. too silly.
