13th. Now it gets better.

some say the exhaust manifold of the M52 is better due to the stainless steel ones then the M50 of the cast iron. the M52 ones are the shorter headers and tuned for torque and not hp's. Using the M50 cast iron ones are better due the extra length for top end. need to check if the M50 can be used as i have not tried it on a e38.
 
laidat i want you to keep my V8 for a month lah.. sure 50 bhp increase :D
 
hey, hey... wat about using the M52B25 inlet manifold. it's bigger right..?

14th. make the throttle body larger by 1.1m in size. currently the M52 has larger opening by just 0.7 mm in diameter than the M50, by making the bore bigger, larger are intakes are possible.

Note, this applies to engines that have heavy mod (will reveal soon)

15th. this gets interesting...

Use the USS52 high cams, better lift and duration, this adds to 12hps more standard but will need programing (do this last cos will accumulate all the mods)

16th. use the underdrive pulleys, it will help, but minimal 6hps off, however buy the pully for the fan and powersteering.. dun change the damper ones, will ruin the engine.

17th. If got chance to remove the head, do a port and polish job for the inlet, bigger inlet diameter and smoothen the exhaust port, not to much just a bit smooth, dun enlarge the exhaust port as you need the pressure to expel the gases.

this will give smoother pick up and immediate throttle response.

got more time do a decking on the valve, this increases the air intake volume and do a 3 angle valve seat, more air.

18th. actually by doing the head to breath more better, the more the hp's generate. remember race cars engines, most the work is on the head after the engine block.

so, back to the cams, the M52 uses the single valve springs, conical type. this because BMW wanted good fuel savings (lesser friction movement), so in order to stay at top end speed of 250km/h, at about 6600rpm, you will need good heavy springs in order the 'springs' to not float at high rpm.

so, use the M50 non-vanos springs set up, they use the double springs as the Non-Vanos M50 has hot cams (very similar to the S50 US M3). use the seat valves and caps, etc.

this will help on the high end.. by the way, it wont happen on the e38 !!.. must be crazy to be that rpm daily.

19th. Lock the vanos unit, by locking it you will need the program to run it. proven results have been good till 15% increase in power. however, i m proficient in this field.

20. Upgrade the injectors to the Euro M3 B30 type. the original M52B28 injectors is 19lbs and the M3 is 21lbs. You will need to program the ecu.

21st. Finally, with this all mods, the ECU will have to be flashed with a program to suit the Mods done.

Wtih this mods, then standard output will be raised to 228hps from 193hps. very good for a 18.5% increase.. short of 11.5% percent. adding a radical cams is another 3% to the value but torque suffer.


to achieve the 30% is possible, but need to touch the engine.

Pls give rough estimate of cost here....I would guess 1.5k for every percentage increase?????

My 2 cents worth la...keep the E38 stock standard....you will have no regrets. Ask anyone who has moded their E38, surely ada some compromise from the magical original feeling. I sometimes kick myself for compromising what was a magical ride quality for esthetics!!!!

no la... me no superman, just a person who loves to mod... my favourite engine is the M50.. can mod till no end..

hmmn.. total can be till 12k or more..

keeping the e38 standard is the best, cos the car is build to cruise and chauffeur driven.. want to mod engine is to buy e36 or more daring, e39.. would be waste to do it on a e38.

but doing minimal mods is good just to have something to tinker on the car, if not boring..

True bro. Ahhh....M50...I like...my E34 is M50....pls tell me what I can do to get more power man....i'm real keen to understand the options. I'd like better pick up response, higher top end and better braking response.......thanks SUPERMAN...or shall I say SUPERPUSS :top:
