Hello, everyone. Just need some advice. Is it okay to go for a unit of E23 735i with a 2.8L roadtax? I have mixed feedbacks from my friends. What do you think? Please advise. Thanks.

Thanks.

check the engine number and the registration card. If the card say 2.8, than u r ok.

in the reg. card what is the c.c of the car?, regardless the model....then u fine the REAL amount to pay for the road-tax... 2.8...around RM1688.00 something...

Hi, thank you all for your feedback. But will there be any problems in future eg. paying a 2.8L roadtax for a 3.5L car & insurance issue in the event of accident?

to be 100% Blunt: it's illegal as Roadtax is determined by JPJ and based on engine capacity. thus; as defined by the law of the land, 3.5 ltr IS abou 4000 a year.

so how and why is the roadtax 2.8 or 2.0 ie how can it be cheaper? and "official".

Well as everyone know our illustrious JPJ is one of the more corruption prone government bodies and being as corruption proof as a sieve is water proof and as well managed as Cuba, (witness, NAZA's underdeclaration, AP king scandals as reported by the foreign "anti-muslim/malaysian/asian press" etc) ; there are numerous JPJ employees who will "officially" change the reg car capacity to make your 3.5 into a 2.8, 2.5 2.0 or whatever for a few thousand "kopi" $$ .

Thus, is your 2.8 roadtax "OK"? Legally - NO it is breaking the law and you will be in a world of Sh*t IF the authorities catch you. If you doubt me, pls consult any lawyer who will tell you "ignorance of the law" is no excuse for violation of it..... In other words :

" Sorry, Mr Insurance co/judge etc I did not know my car WAS a 3.5 ltr , because the reg car said its a 2.0 !" ! !!! is just not going to work!! :(!!

In practise however, the 2.8 engine is externally almost indistinguishable from the 3.5 and unless the isnurance co does a cubic CC test or compare actual electroinic ancillaries, they will not be able to find out. Thus in all practical probability, they will not do the forementioned and so you are probably "OK'

So my friends: the choice is yours... you are prob OK but you are violating the law.. but, then again - so NAZA and they & their supporting crony minister have not been caught yet...!! malaysia boleh !!

btw: pls don's ask me how I know all this stuff... :)!!

I would agree with 525iBoy.......the other thing is that your Insurance company can take your engine number and chassis number and check if your car was a original 3.5L, ONLY if they suspect something is wrong? In normal circumstances, they will not suspect anything...

In case of an accident, the loss adjuster that inspects your vehicle will not be able to tell the 2.8L apart from the 3.5L... if the engine is damaged in the accident, the workshop will find out that the engine in your car is actually a 3.5L, as they will have to source the parts to repair your engine... Therefore, in case of an accident that involves repairs to your engine, it would be very easy to 'pakat' with the workshop as they would also want your business...

So my friend, dun worry bout it... just go for it! sure, its a bit of risk but what's is life without a little flavour? After all you save considerable cash on the road tax... plus there's a lot of people out there that I know who is paying lesser road tax than their actual car c.c... You would enjoy the fantastic 3.5L engine!

While I strongly recommend not living in violation of the law, not supporting corruption. , I have to live by its' spirit of the law vs its letter". and take the lesser course of evil. ie:.. do we pay a corrupt JPJ or do we do what we feel is right?..sad to say its prob more moral to do the latter - sigh, as even whatever you do someone pocket is being greased so might was well save your greasing...(eg. buy a new car and the AP kings are being greased, buy NAza and some minister is being greased, buy Proton and UMNO cronies beign greased)

...furthermore, as most of our Roadtax goes into Samy's "new" 1960 hair-style vs repairing our roads, I think you should go for it.. besides, mech the 2.8 engine parts are virtually indistinguishable from the 3.5. and even if you order new internal parts (and you won't - bec engines internals survive in almost any car accident!!) the insurance co will no be able to tell. and even if they ask it not a problem as the mech will just change the engine part nos.

If your conscious is still violated .. remember most of our roads are toll anywyas so your road tax gets paid.

Just don't go and bung in a V8 and claim its a 2.5 inline six. That would be a bit hard to cover up.

kek!! kek!!

but You could put in the v8 3.0 and get it downgraded to 3.0 and 2K OR rtax/yr. This was everything is fully legal.

Dun be surprised if you can get away with throwing in a V8 and claiming its a 2.5 inline six .... it's amazing what money can do to JPJ officers?

Yeah, would u believe i've seen the new m5 with a roadtax of a 2.2! if you had the money to buy the car, why do that?

wat!! new M5 with 2.2 ltr roadtax..

why do that if one has the money? ... I suspect it's because money has nothing to do with it..it also show why we have moved up the corrpution index to no 15!! eekkk

But then again... why not? If you can get away with paying a 2.2L roadtax, why pay for a 5.0L roadtax? After all the govt is ripping us off with all kind of taxes... A common wage earner can't even buy a decent car in this country with all the duties impose! Everything is soo expensive! So why pay higher road tax when there is a way to a lower amount? Smart M5 owner!

yup, that IS probably the saddest thing of all. I suspeect no one believes in the Gov .. prob even the government... I mean look at the way things are being run eg.

1) used car prices too lower.. therefore must raise new car prices.!!

2) roads too dangerous - raise traffic fines..
3) roads still too dangerous - decrease sppeed limit
4) roads STILL too dangerous - discuss disucss discuss, everythign EXCEPT the real causes!! - corrupt police, corrupt driving test, incompetent drivers etrc etc, poor vehicle condition etc etc.

5) Proton not selling - raise IMport taxes!!
6) Proton still not selling - how can we raise used car prices
7) Proton STILL NOT selling - lower import tax but raise Exise duty!!

sigh... when are we going to ger REAL leaders in Govern and not money politicians...

Food for thought.

our income tax is on paper - theoretically about 35% for a person earngn eg 7,000 a per month. ie, a typically Klang valley income earner.

but if the person spends about 2300 per month on vehicles (which he needs to) and the vehicle is beign taxed at abut 40% - which it is on a CKD. then his REAL tax si actually, 1000 on the car in ADDITION to his 2000 income tax. In toher words his REAL tax is something like 3000/7000= 43 %% which is bloody high!!

to put this in perspective the real tax easily rivals a developed country... so come on Malaysia - wake UP!! before another riot occurs!!

Totally agree with you Bro... The gov is indeed ripping us off!!! Now nore increases in Tol, sometime ago it was electricity, water, petrol etc... Inflation is rising to unprecedented levels

A rich and develop country is not defined by the amount of money the government has, but how much is the income per capita of the nation and/or the disposable income of its people! What for rich gov but poor people!!

With all the price increases... die laa like this...

yup... agree with you people...unfortunately Malaysia has been losing out in the race. Of course if you listen to the politicans we are teh leader of the pack.. the pack being African countries, arab countries etc.. ie. the best of the worst!!

if we compare ourselves with eg. Taiwan, Sing, korea Thailand. ie. all the countries we were on par with 25 years ago then Malaysians will be forced to admit we are far far behind.

sadly the situation will continue as long as the country focuses on racial issues instead of growing the pie so everyone has more...meanwhile everyone gets to "enjoy higher and higher real prices"...

what has this to do with RoadTax on a 3.5!! almost nothing at all except that I have lil respect for government that can mess up such a richly blessed county like ours that we have to charge some 50-400% tax on essential items like cars to protect hopeless local companies like Proton and creates partially senseless economic & social policy.

:)

I've actually seen a 2.0 roadtax for the m30 3.5 ltr engine.. so it IS amazing what JPJ can do once "motivated"..

what I would REALLY REALLY like to see is a 4.0 V8 on a 800cc roadtax..furthurmore, this year pay some Rm35 on it instead of Rm180 due to our pro-grassroots fiscal budget !! hah!! hah!!:eek::eek:
