Hi,
im using 320i E90, I just changed my ATF using Pentosin ATF 1 LV, is it recommended?
as original BMW ZF6 Atf is yellow color, Penstosin is RED. if there any significant difference?

one more question, I have a balance of 1L Pentosin ATF, could I use it as power steering fluid?

thanks.

As long as the oil specs and viscosity is similar then it's fine. Pentosin is a very good brand and comes highly recommended for my datsun. They're also very familiar with ZF gearboxes.

"We are pleased to announce that after extensive development Pentosin has released a dedicated fluid for the Nissan GTR transmission - Pentosin FFL-Racing. This has been specifically developed for the GTR transmission and thoroughly tested on stock cars as well as highly modified vehicles running in excess of 800 hp.

Pentosin are the world leaders in transmission fluids, supplying over 95% of OE fluid for DCT transmissions in Europe. Their focus is not in marketing; instead, they choose to invest heavily in their own research and development programs and own four of only ten multi-million pound ZF drive-line test rigs that exist in the world today."

What's stated on your PS cap? some older bmw models uses ATF fluid as PS fluid

thanks silverbullet on your advice, makes me feel much better now as I was worried Pentosin is not compatible with my ZF gearbox,
I heard that for 320i able to use ZF ATF, 323i above have to use a specific PS oil, need 320i owners to clarify this.

320i pre-LCI uses ZF 6HP19 while LCI uses GM box. I use ZF6 brown fluid for my 320i religiously. Why would u want to use something else?

The GM box uses red Petrol Canada fluid. There's a reason for the color, it's primarily used as differentiate its grade. If you ask me, I would be extremely uncomfortable pouring red fluid into my ZF 6HP19.

astroboy, mine is zf gbox, I requested for bmw zf6 ATF but unfortunately was out of stock, when they drained my old atf (previously using bmw zf6 oil), it was yellow color,
mech poured in Pentosin ATF it was red color, I asked the mech but he said its fine.

astroboy,
can u advice me whether able to use Pentosin ATF for power steering fluid?

Mine also hasn't changed.. :p mine I would put the brown zf6.

To be frank, they are all hydraulic fluid and power steering is less particular, unless yours is active steering, there will be a warning label on the fluid reservoir and it strictly runs on green color fluid.

astroboy, mine should be the same as yours. im driving e90 320i basic spec not sure whether is active steering or not.

Hi astroboy, im driving an e90 lci 320d 2009 model. When i checked my VIN, i got an "unknown" indication for my gearbox make. However when i check my model on realoem, th parts recommended for my gb is GA16HP19Z,which i assume is ZF instead of GM. Any inputs on this?

Danz, 320i no active steering la.

ahshawn, GA16HP19z is GM. Easy to check. Transmission oil pan is metal. ZF oil pan is plastic.

shud be ok la bro...pentosin is a brand name.just make sure it is ATF(auto trans fluid) and not CHF(synthetic hyd fluid)....

i use CHF coz i have active steering....and the reservoir cap states to use CHF....
