My mechanic advise me to use Castrol ATF-QD as my bmw power steering fluid,What is the best oil recommended?Pls advise.TQ

Yup ... for E46 BMW uses ATF ( Dexron III) as power steering fluid :D ... So as long as the ATF fluid meets the Dexron III std you're good to go :D

what ATF are you using for your gearbox, use back the same for your power steering, should be either ESSO or ZF

AFAIK what the colour of the oil is irrelevant bro. As long the label on the ATF says meet or exceed dexron III then you're good to go :top:(BHP hv ATF with dexron III 1L bottle cheap cheap) or as mention by bro mouse.

When i change my power steering fluid d new ATF (forgot which brand) is red in colour but that is only a colour dye put in by oil manufacturer :D

Castrol ATF-TQD is good after power steering oil change, handling totally different, very smooth..

Guys, need advice here.

I've been looking around for the correct power steering fluid for my e46 325.
But i get a mix answer from workshop, sparepart stockist, web.

Bavarian auto ask me to buy the CHF11s hydralic oil (Green).
My mechanic ask me to use back ZFlifeguard 5 ATF oil.
The source from internet mentioned that any ATF with Dexron III is suitable.

My current power steering oil is brownish, I guess is due for change.
What I heard CHF11s is only for newer BMW fitted with active steering, i.e E60.

Really confius, please help ... thx in advance

I'm not sure whether it's Dexron III compatible or not ... But Dexron III is a common ATF and you can get it at most spare part shop. Fyi last time i check BHP sells their ATF which is listed as Dexron III
