I noticed that there're ATF D4 and D6 in the market. Although BMW requires Dexron III for its manual transmission, anyone have experience in using Redline D4 or D6 in their manual gearboxes?Below is the comparison between the two.ATF D4Our most versatile ATF, use where Dexron III®, Dexron II®, Mercon® and Mercon V® fluids are recommended, provides a GL-4 level of gear protectionPopular applications: Toyota Type T-III and T-IV, Honda ATF Z1, NissanMatic D, J, K, & S, Diamond SP-II, SP-III, Mazda ATF M-V, most BMW, Audi, VW automatic transmissionsAlso used with manual transmissions and transaxles like T-5, T-45, T-56 and late-model BMWExcellent cold weather operationSource: http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=51&pcid=9ATF D6Our lowest viscosity, most shear-stable ATF for consistent operationDesigned to satisfy Dexron-VI®, Dexron-III®, Dexron-II®, Mercon®SP and Mercedes Benz NAG-2 fluidsAlso satisfies API 70W/75W/80W and GL-4 gear oil requirementsSource: http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=115&pcid=9

I have used it in my S50 5 speed before. Don't like it. Gears are hard to engage when hot. Dex III works best and is also the recommended ATF by BMW, IMHO

I was using Redline before this and I didn't quite like it. Somehow I get this grind going from 4th to 5th especially when I'm pushing it near the redline.

Currently I'm using Torco manual transmission oil. At first it was great but after about a year or so I'm noticing really hard gear shift when the gearbox is cold. Once it warms up it's fine. Also the grind from 4th to 5th is no longer there with the Torco oil.

I am using Redline Lightweight Shock Proof and am thinking of changing to ATF D4. When I look at Redline website, I don't think they put the D6 on their line of oil for manual gearbox

It seems like Dex III is still the best fluid for manual. I used Dex III in my last change in sept last year, and it was feeling a bit notchy when cold. When hot, it feels fine. I thought of exploring other fluids..
