operating plate holder

i am having abit of problem trying to operate the bmw number plate holder for which i got it from bavarian auto.there is 1 hinge on top and 1 below, suggesting that the front can be opened up and down. i dont have any picture with me at the moment because am not able to upload it now.if you have an idea on how that thing works, do share, else i will upload pictures tonight.

See the 2nd photo. The 2 tiny plastic hook.. lift the upper part first because it overlap with the lower part. Bottom half no more hook.

do i need to pinch the hook behind, or just use a flat head screwdriver to pry it out?
