Congratulations on your decision to get a E36 :) It's a lovely car but as with all cars above or nearing the 10 year mark, you'll need to be wary of it's condition before purchasing one.

The best advise I can give you is be patient and do not rush when it comes to purchasing a E36. Take your time and you're bound to find the perfect one.

For maintenance, you can check out this thread http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27 which will give you a rough idea of pricing for parts, labour charges etc.

Good luck!

For daily drive and if you want power, maybe you can consider the 325i. Not too expensive to spend per day (petrol usage per day), cheaper on roadtax (average RM71/month) and does not sacrifice power.

Even cheaper and if you don't mind power, go for 318i. Even cheaper roadtax and you get free petrol (government RM625 rebate).

I drive a 328i and with the petrol price incease, my petrol bill is RM900/month. I too travel daily with 3000km/month.

What is your budget? I can find you one.
318 will be a good buy unless you are into serious power/torque.

Well said loafer..

I do have to agree with loafer and best advice is "Please don't rush..join our TT and let us share the pros and cons of the car"

Good luck in your search.. It took me 6 months to find mine.

hii.. im using e36 318 for 5 years, just moved to KL 3 months ago, may i know is there any good workshop around? reliable and honest, anyway i stay in kota damansara, lately my temperature shoot up after 10 minutes traffic jam, i sent to a workshop in kayu ara in damansara, initialy i changed water pump then fan then thermostart but the temperature still going up, i will not send my car back to him.

amospeed, most workshop will change either the thermostat or the water pump first whenever problem with high temperature is encounter.

other thing would be :-
1. coolant
2. hoses
3. cluth fan.
4. aux fan
5. radiator cap

If you go to 10 workshops, most probably all would do the same. That is why it is recommend that you find a good workshop and stick with it. especially the workshop that keep a record of the servicing that is carried out at their workshop.

Bro, check your radiator cap. The rubber could be worned out. That could be the problem...
