Roger,

Very true! A few rich kid in town did just that and its so "sakit" for us to see what they did to their UDM... Very sad.

Ya I hope I dont happen to buy their ride.

Thanks StRats...

It is a sweet ride our friend have there... Wish I will have mind soon.

I just spoke to a friend of a friend.

He had an 1997 E36 328 which had done abt 140k km.

As he was upgrading to an E92 325 he sold the car to a dealer for RM40k.

Aduh missed opportunity.

Well he told me he didnt have the time sell it himself and deal with private buyers.

Furhermore the car wasnt easy to sell as financing wasnt easy to come buy for most buyers. Many were also put off by the high road tax...RM1600pa and maintainance.

If these issues ie financing ,road tax & maintainance is not aproblem then there are good deals out there. The challenge of course is finding them.

Hmm RM40k for a 1997 140k km
328 owned by a professional.

There's a 325i Coupe going for 47k (93/96).. You guys think that's ok?

Keep the search on and keep us posted.. A friend of mine wants one too..

From what I understand the coupe/cabrio is twice the price of the sedan.

But 1993 is a bit old though.

Apparently not this one.. Its on Motor Trader..
Ahh wait.. there are two set backs.. no air-condition and no power steering.. Damn..

hi anxious? you from penang?

if you're in the klang valley, you can always come meetup with owners and check out their cars and find out all you wanna know.. there are quite a few 328 E36's in the club.

i have a 97 model, about 165,000km on the clock now.. the gearbox is still doing well. actually.. low end accel. is a lot stronger than the 325. if you felt the car feeling sluggish during a test drive, its because you didnt mash the pedal straight to the floor and cut-down switch and you'd probably aren't in sport mode. manufacturer claims 7.3 sec for the Auto's 0-100km/h sprint, and it sure feels like it.

i looked at almost 12 cars before finding the car i bought.. after buying it, i spent something like RM4000 to get it up to a condition i was happy with.. the stuff i changed were all wear and tear items.. nothing that would cause the car any real problems on the road.

and no, there are no nikasil problems that i have heard off in malaysia. if there was a problem, nikasil issues will have cropped up in most cars after 100,000kms.
Symptoms are poor starting, rough idle and refusing to start outright.

since you have driven the E36, i wont have to say anything about driving the cars ;) this is the best part, even if you buy a smaller engined bmw, the dynamics of the car are still all there, you only lose out on the power. i have pics of my car here : http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/my-turn-share-t9756.html

Thanks 1+2

My trips to KL are on work and normally its day trip by flight. Thanks anyway for the invite , I'd love to meet up.

Anyway having driven an E30 for the lasts 4 yrs I do appreciate the car and would not dream of getting anything else but a Bimmer. I plan to go through the 3 series with the E36 next and probably in a few years the E46.

Your do hv a nice ride and in the colour of my choice....BLACK.

I am also on the same search.

I have driven E46 328i 2002 model and the power is amazing! Price is RM106K

As for E36 328i I have only test one only and the power is so much better then the 318i but just worried to stress it as it is 1995 model. (RM40K)

All the best for your search... If you happen to come by a 325i E36 or 318i in the price range of RM30-40K and in nice condition, please advice me or PM me ya.

I will advice you if I come across any 328i ya.

Anxious, you are in the best position to get a 328 of your choice because :
1- you have the cash and are willing to pay premium
2- you are not in a hurry.

I looked at probably around 20 cars over a 3-4 month period before deciding. And paid premium. And still found things wrong with it. Frustrating. But spent untold and way illogical sums doing it up (and still spending...) Now, it is lovely. The car purrs. Hard to believe it is 10 years old.

But, must give a gentle word of caution. The car has a way of either frustrating you, or making you fall in love with it. The power is enjoyable. But, to enjoy it fully, you'll need :
1. engine maintenance or rebuild - so that the power is optimised
2. better grade fuel - for optimum combustion
3. good tires - to enjoy the power safely
4. good suspension - because our corners are bumpy
5. good brakes - because you'll run out of road eventually
6. gearbox rebuild - because the torque soon overwhelms the 4-speed slushbox

All the above add up fa$t. Not forgetting other maintenance items which will be due for a car of this age:
1. steering rack
2. power steering pump
3. aircond compressor and coil
4. fuel pump
5. oxygen sensors
6. suspension bushes
etc etc.

Then you discover things like x-brace, camber plates, and the seduction is complete.

If you bite the bullet and open your wallet, you will have an amazing, rewarding ride. If you are looking for a drive it and forget it car, this model may not be a good idea.

Good luck with your search.

Thanks Lee,

A friend of mine just told him that his friend traded in his low miliage..
