Thank you docrayboy for organising the event and thanks for the gift. It was also great pleasure to meet some of you guys this being my first bmwclubmalaysia event. Tested two cars namely the 520i and 528i. Firstly the 520i, power for me was adequate but nothing to shout about. This is just my personal opinion but it just felt too much like a 523i E39 where the full pedal sprint down an empty Jalan Semangat felt akin to my old car. Quite liked the Stop-Start actually but am not entirely sure how it works. All I know is that certain conditions have to met such as the temperature (what temperature exactly? the SA didn't know) or be placed in ECO Pro and Comfort. IMO, the extra stuff in the 520i is not enough to justify the extra over the 520d. IMO, one should only really consider the 520i if you are driven more than driving the 5er itself for the 4-zone air conditioning. Otherwise, I strongly recommend going for the 520d.
Next, the 528i. The experience in this car was much more exciting as it came with all the nice stuff such as Anthracite headlining, the nice to hold M-sport steering wheel, the more supportive Sports seats, the head-up display and the Black Panel Display which altogether makes the interior more pleasant. However, am not a big fan of the 350M rims as I still think they look out of place, would definitely prefer if BMW had used the 351M rims. Other than that, still very much like a panoramic sunroof as available in the first SE versions of the 528i. Performance wise, power delivery was instant and it doesn't feel constrained unlike the 520i but then it no longer had the cream smoothness of the 6-cylinder. Still, the savings one would get on the road tax is very much welcomed.
All in all, would still go for the 520d if I were to purchase the car but it would be good if BMW Malaysia gave higher specs or options such as 4-zone air conditioning, adaptive headlights, adaptive drive or perhaps an M-Sport 520d?
P.S. A special mention for whoever that brought the 535i M-Sport Touring on Sunday. That was a beauty and it must be nice having the ventilated seats.
