Eric,

The official statistic of 10.1L/100 km I assumed is based on new car. My e39 525i official statistic 10.3L/100 km was achieved by replacing the pre-cat O2 sensors (qty 2) and MAF. Before the replacement, my fuel consumption was 11.5L/100 km.

Herbert, while on the topic here, I have bought new o2 sensors for my car, following getting these readings from the BMW Scanner:

5A/12 - Exhaust temperature before catalyst, bank 1, signal line, short circuit to negative
5B/12 - Exhaust temperature before catalyst, bank 2, signal line, short circuit to negative
5D/12 - Exhaust temperature after catalyst, bank 2, signal line, short circuit to negative

However when at Optimum on Saturday, they connected the Autologic to my car, diagnosed it and the o2 sensor error did not come up and recommended not to change. Should I still change?

Hi Herbert, am planning to change the vanos seal + 02 sensor + MAF (probably, maybe scan first) for my E39, pls advise roughly how much will be the cost?

Wow, based on this, your 88 litre tank can last you 1,250km!!!

Vanos seal RM190 + RM250 labour

O2 sensor RM700 parts only for 2 pre-cats, RM800 for 2 post-cats

MAF RM850-950 depending where you get them from

Planning to change in the next service, which would mean another 3k (change + service) in total i supposed.

Check the availability of the Beisan vanos seals first bro, we bought from USA. Not sure if local workshop/parts shop would carry them. I think not.

Not really bro, i think WP Auto, Optimum and lamoo' workshop (not sure what name) still have the vanos seal.

If they don't have, i know a Pg workshop sure got the vanos seals.

If your pre-cat O2 sensors are totally fried, then errors will show up during diagnostic test. According to Bosch, O2 sensor typically last no more than 100k km and degradation will set in resulting inaccurate feedback to ECU. Change your O2 sensors if I were you.

Eric,

Haywire has given you an indication of the prices. I suggest you do the above replacement at Optimum @ Kayu Ara as Jason Foo (the boss) will have the Beisan vanos seals in stock. Scanning will not show you much about the condition of these 3 parts as degradation does not show up during diagnostic test.

Did detailing at CARs Klang Parade last week, highlighted to the person in charge that they have had bad reputation. (other branch). He promised to do a good job. overall satisfied with the work and no visible swirl mark. i think car detailing very much depends on the person doing the work rather that whether CARs or other detailing centre.

The surface smoothness now restored.

Eric,

You want both items for your e66 or e39? To avoid BA giving you the wrong parts, best is to give them your cars' VIN number. Tell them you want the pre-cat O2 (oxygen sensor) and MAF aka airflow sensor. You can also call BA @ Subang Jaya (03) 7876-5555 Mr Wong
