Guys, Wondering whether you guys know what brand of the player they use in e46 ar?The reason i am asking is that, i was thinking of buying an adapter for the connectivity of my iPod to the player, eliminating any frequency deficiency. iTrip is ok but not the same. They are available for certain models such as Alpine players. Called AB, they says that it is some German brand and to install the iPod adapter for the existing player, it is gonna cost rm2k+. CD changer will be removed, fine but just wondering whether it is worth doing that?Damn, wished i had a CBU unit.Your thots is appreciated.

Head Unit is made by Philips.

Btw, even CBU units don't come with the iPod wiring done up unless u specify it when ordering.

So no difference i guess btwn CBU and CKD in this respect.

The one AB installs for u will be an OEM one that BMW released and only for cars built after September 2002.

Apparently according to the BMW magazine i just got in the mail.

i'm getting confused here... blackcat talking to puss? huh?! gila already after selling his e34 issit?

Hi Puss,

Let me know when you find out where you can get it locally.

I'm considering an iPOD but dun plan to bloddy fork out extra 2K and have them take out my CD changer. Think that's ridiculous..

ipod only works on late '03 onwards player. All you need to do is buy the wiring harness. ;)

Puss taikache, how is yr Ipod project coming along ?

Anyone else manage to Install any Ipod adapter for E46? Would like to hear yr experience. I just picked up a Nano and is looking for neat ways to hook it up to my ride (w steering control etc so no FM modulator).

If it were me, i'd just get an aftermarket iPod ready player for around RM1,500 (Alpine, Kenwood or Pioneer) and get the adaptor which is going around RM700.

There's also a similar discussion going on here for the Mini but more or less relevant to the topic here.

iPod for Mini

Personally, i think paying RM2k for an adapter is ridiculous. But if you've got the money to spend, and want to maintain the original interior look of the car, it would be money well spent. Check out the site daan suggested.

Puss.. you got iPod? Jealous ar!!!

I'm skeptical about the integration - I can't imagine scrolling through 1000 songs using the tiny screen on the stock head unit player for the 3 series.

I'm using a cassette adapter ( and I still have the cassette player ) .. I'm kinda fortunate coz many ppl I know with newer cars (not just BMW) are using a changer and can't integrate unless they use iTrip.

Cassette adapter to ok for 80% of the time but at louder volumes you get electronic interference, hiss and distortion. I tried iTrip but reception was very very poor (weak signal).

For perfection I can only imagine that you can yank out your changer, plug your iPod to the corresponding inputs and control playlist via iPod and volume on the steering knob. Good enuf.

I'm hooked on podcasts these days.. makes getting stuck in traffic a non event !!!
