HAMIDKUALA LUMPUR: It was literally a dead end for a thief who thought he could get some money by snatching the bag of a woman – he died after his victim ran over him in her car at a dead-end alley.The dramatic incident unfolded at about 10pm on Wednesday when the woman was driving along Jalan Setapak heading to her house in Petaling Jaya.She was approached by a man on motorcycle when she stopped at a traffic light.The man claimed that she had knocked his motorcycle earlier and asked for compensation.The woman, a marketing executive, believed him and stopped at a nearby petrol station where the man demanded a sum of money.Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Zakaria Pagan said the 28-year-old woman handed over all the money that she had – RM42 – but he was not satisfied and demanded her handphone.“When she refused to surrender her mobile phone, the man snatched her handbag and sped off on his motorcycle,” he told a press conference yesterday.The woman quickly got into her Perodua Myvi and started chasing after the man.ACP Zakaria said the man, who was believed to be unfamiliar with the area, turned into a dead end at a golf club near Taman Titiwangsa.The woman, who failed to control her car when the man stopped his motorcycle, rammed into him before crashing into the golf club fencing.“The man died on the spot due to severe head injuries,” he said, adding that initial investigation revealed that the man had a criminal record for robbery.The dead man was identified as C. Unnikrisnan, 29, from Seremban.ACP Zakaria said the woman was assisting police in their investigations and the case had been classified under Section 304 of the Penal Code as culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
