Hello fellow petrolheads :)I'd like to seek your opinions on the E46 M3. Basically, I'm hoping to get a feel for it's current value and expected depreciation, how easy/difficult will it be to sell on in say 4/5 yrs time?I might ship it back to MY, but is it really worth all that import/customs hassle?E92 to be released soon, but with higher roadtax and price, will the E46 become more desirable?Any opinions welcome... especially from current E46 M3 owners. Many thanks!---

the e46 is still awesome car.. still make heads turn... buy it.. having one is one's dream.. pm calvin tan.. he's done a lot on his car...

dude...

when u wanna ship it back??!?! hahaha by that time the e92 will be desirable to u mate.. dont u think so?

Go get yourself the E46 M3 - its a car that will always have a standing amongts serious petrolheads....and you will enjoy every moment behind the wheel! after all, every car will depreciate, but I reckon there will always be demand for the M3s - any year, any model!

In Malaysia, any car approaching 10 years old becomes harder to sell due to higher interest rate...

E46 I'm hoping will become the new E30 for many many years to come, but I could be wrong tho'.

Thanks for the input, fabianyee. Any idea on the typical difference in interest rate?

There can only be ONE E30 M3 ....

Just by production numbers alone you can surmise the E46 M3 will never attain such lofty reverence as the E30 M3, imho.

BUT the E46 M3 is a fine car. As long as you like it, then go for it. You're paying for it so its your enjoyment that matters. Can't be thinking of sunk costs and escalating commitment all the time.

Thanks for the thoughts KL2DC. I know I'll certainly enjoy every bit of it, just like how BMW intended too... quite tempted atm to trade-up to an E46 M3, bung on some goodies from ca-automotive then enjoy it here for a few years before exporting, maybe even attempt a Nurburg trip. But if the big KL roadtax will affect desirability/resale or if the final import tax negates any benefit then perhaps it'll be more sensible to acquire locally... will need to look into this more throughly when I get the chance. Suffered so much pain already with depreciation... heart says YES! head says NOT YET!

Don't think so much of the road tax la...JUST BUY IT AND ENJOY IT!

:top:

Anyway M3 is not suppose to be a first car...in Malaysia I think it is at least yr 2nd car.....definitely not a family car IMO....

When you put the pedal to the metal, you WILL know where every sen of that road tax is going!!!! hooo hooo!!!!

BUY BUY BUY!

I like how's M3 CSL sounds when pump up the RPM. I wish my E-46 can be like that though.

Guys,

Just out of curiosity, if we were to get a used BMW M3 from a dealer, or even from an owner, how do we know that the car has gone through the service action that was carried out by BMW due to the engine seizure issue? I believe the service action only affects pre 03 E46 M3s..

What if the part replacement has not been carried out? Will that affect the value? How about the Japan spec E46 M3s? Do they have the 180 km/h speed limit and FM frequency issues?

Appreciate any inputs..

If it is/was a UK car, then you need to contact BMW Customer Service UK with the VIN number of the car in question, then they will let you know within a week. Telephone or e-mail will do.

If they don't have it, then it may not have been done under warranty but they will direct you to to the BMW dealer who dealt with it so you can contact them to check.

If none exists then steer clear unless you know it was done in Msia by a reputable specialist.
