Saw one Ver 8 STi at a car showroom near Volvo along Sg Besi road with the enlarged scoop and squarish lights. Got Prodrive bits, blue and asking for Rm190k+. Also a Mini Cooper S with the John Cooper bits asking for RM 175+k.. I think the STi looks stunning in black but most people prefer the blue.
yup..i think i caught a glimpse of the STi there a few weeks back while passing through the area.wonder why its still there? hmmm...these cars are normally snapped up pretty quickly.
gotta be careful though..not to get a lemon.
blue and black are the fav colours..what with the gold rims and all.

would still love to have an M3 one of these days..hopefully will be blessed with more 'rezeki'..

Saw a STi Ver.8 at a shop nearby my office while checking some Toyotas. ASking price 178k, mileage as claimed 20k++. Looks nice :D

Yea the M3 has more class than the STi for sure... But long term ownership in terms of maintenance and reliability should go to the STi hands down. I hear these cars are built tough and have very little issues. Pump petrol and drive mentality. Also with a little boost tweaks, it keeps a few M3 owners guessing if they should run with you on the street. My guess is that since most STi's and Evos are rarely stock, the M3 stays clear from them.. :dunno:

Definitely- on urban roads, an STi or EVO would maul an M3, but on the highways, I think the M3 can give 'em a run for their money.

Oh, and the M3's weak brakes don't do it any favours on track agaisnt those 2.

Sigh, if I could get a 3rd car, I'd definitely get a rally rocket. Sigh.

The s54 3.2 inline 6 is perfectly adequete if you keep it on the boil. It's the brakes that suck. Seeing that the M5/6 still use single piston sliding calipers, I doubt the next M3 will have anything better.

i wouldn't dream of racing an M3 on the highway..i think the M is still superior on highway duels.
..and yeah, rarely stock.a simple mod package incl ECU work,I/C piping and exhaust normally yields plenty of horses.compared to bimmers, the items available for tuning work are so aplenty that i don't know where to start!! damn!! even choosing a BOV is dificult.
anyways, still have 'selene' for highway runs back to Penang..no sweat.

My advice to you:

1. Keep the air filter and BOV system stock. aftermarket air filter will make your car lose power at bottom end. Aftermarket BOV might cause engine oil run to the intercooler. The stupid sound from the after market BOV is for ah beng..."CHAHHHHHHHHHH"......"CHINGGGGGGGGGGGGG", you like it ah? I installed the SQV and took it out weeks later.

2. Change the front pipe and cat-back system

3. Turbo timer.

300HP and 40kg++ of torgue for daily driving, super reliable and durable. Don't be so stupid to boost up the car, or change motec la autronic la haltech la etc. Actually its not even worth to spend your money on those fancy DEFI gauges, I had 7 DEFI gauges on the ex-car but apart from the fancy light and make-me-feel-proud attention, I didnt find anything else useful.

hi mr chelsea..what car did u have before?

anyways, after a chat with the guys at Links(had surveyed a few places and am most impressed with them)this is what i have planned without revealing too too much..

1.ECU reflash
2.intercooler pipings
3.cat back exhaust system(Ti? stainless steel? dunno yet)
4.Apexi turbo timer
5.Pivot speed meter
6.panel high flow filter
7.BOV
more exhaust work might come in later but a cat back shud suffice for the moment.need to leave a little space for when my power fetish comes again..

i don't want to remove the cat cuz i don't want it to be too noisy plus i don't want to lose too much low end shove.i was actually interested in Prodrive's PPP but was told that its not available for JDMs.so what i have in store for the STi is something not unlike the PPP.

btw the car already comes with Zeal Function adjustables and CE28Ns so i'm cool in the chassis department.maybe a bottom chassis brace a little later on..

not going for crazy power..got too much to lose.taking a race driving course with someone at the moment.hehe...

cheers guys.

errr.. I thot this thread is supposed to be for E36 M3... ????

Well, I owned both MY00 STi and E8.

ECU reflash? Please don't do that, you will notice minimal or none difference unless you go for Motec or Autronic or F-Con V Pro etc, but trust me, you dont need those aftermarket ECU.

Intercooler piping? The stock intercooler piping connects direct to the intake manifold, we called it the Y-Pipe, original STi Y-Pipe is good enough and by changing the 9 inches piping you will notice no difference, trust me, I did that, and I wish I hadn't. Forget the front mount system too, the car was not designed to have its intercooler in the front, expect huge loss of bottom end if you go for front mount.

HKS Hi Power will do just fine but front pipe makes the most and noticeably difference. By removing the cat you will loss minimal or none bottom end power but that's not noticeable. Mind you, WRX got 2 catalytic converter, one of the front pipe the other in between the front pipe and center pipe.

Any turbo timer will do their jobs well.

Get any speed meter that can elimate the 180km/h speed limiter. Apexi one is good.

Don't play around the air filter as aftermarket air filter might cause problem to your STi air sensor, I have mine spoilt after installing the HKS system. If you really want, get the ARC one, that's a really good one. BOV? Please.....I think I have explained it before but IF, you really want a BOV for attention purpose, get the Blitz one, or turbosmart Super Sonic (or trumpet?), those are really loud.

Bronze CE28N? 18? I am envious of you.

But as far as I've experienced, the most value for money on suspension/handling parts, is the sway bar, I felt like the car was on rail when entering a narrow 90 degree corner at the speed of 70km/h++.

Any other light weight parts like CF bonnet, mirrow, trunk etc is totally not neccessary.

What else? Kee is one of the most famous tuner in sunway but charge at high price, D-Speed is good too but for minor modification like yours, I'll go to any place where is the cheapest, simply just pay for the parts and bolt on, no tuning is required.

Last but not least, HAVE YOUR MONEY WELL SPENT!!!!!

Please start a new thread on the STI in other makes.
TQ
