Lube oil recommended

Hi All,
I have not been to AB service centre but was wondering for those of you that have what oil do they recommend for the e36 318i? It know it is Castrol but which one, Magnetec, RS 10W60???

Alex

Both are recommemded just btw fully synthetic or semi. I normally go for 10w40 fully synthetic, 10W60 is abit thick and the car feel abit heavy. No harm trying the both yourself then u will know the difference btw and next time u can go choose for other brand.
Use 10w40 give me 5% extra mileage per full tank.... experience this in all my car both cont and japs.

Greets,

For my beloved e30 m20b27, I use AC Delco 20W/40 now ever since I own the bimmer about 2 months ago.

Regards.

FYI, for the E46 AB uses Shell Helix Synthetic 5W-30 formulated to conform with BMW Long Life 01 specs.

I beleive in Castrol GTX Magnatec 10W-40, there is some extra advantages

Every time you start your car it takes most oils 10 minutes to work effectively, because the oil cannot protect properly until it reaches a critical temperature. Castrol GTX Magnatec 10W-40 for Modern Engines is different as it gets to work straight away by virtue of a unique synthetic ester that clings to the engine like a magnet - this "Unique Molecular Attraction" provides up to 4 times more protection than a conventional oil during the critical start and warm up period
Offers 4 times better wear protection than ordinary oils from start up
Provides critical engine protection during start and warm-up periods
Oil clings to the engines surface like a magnet providing constant protection even when the engine is switched off

FYI, LL-01 5W-30 is meant for valvetronic engine (year 2002 & above facelift model)

I wonder, if the oil does cling to the surface like a magnet according to what you mentioned, what happens to the old oil when you do your oil change...? if it does cling like a magnet, then wud you say that you will not be able to properly drain the old oil from the engine when you change the engine oil...?

For your information, most oil does not need 10 minutes to work effectively.... unless you are using grades of oil with API SC or SD or SF... in fact most lubes that are API certified and approved especially the SL's and SM's, generally meet the standards of the international engine manufacturers requirements... and Adnoc lubes happen to be listed in the BMW list of approved oils...

it's okie if you believe in Castrol as they have over a 100 years of lube experience....

cheers

I'm using Castrol Fully Synthetic Oil Too. But the content claim is different.
10W-60 ( Castrol EDGE Sport - Castrol's Best sport performance Fully Synthetic )

Is there 2 type of Castrol fully Synthetic oil in the market?
There are members claimming Castrol Fully Synthetic is 10W-40.
I'm confuce...

Now currently wanna to try BP Fully Synthetic 5W-40 SynGard 8000... Any advice

I've been using Q8 F1 10W-50 for a couple of years aledi.. pretty good oil. It's one of the few brands using esther-based oil. I may be able to arrange for club discount for Q8 if any of you are interested since I personally know the local distributor.

esther based oil is best known for their resistance towards fire, likewise heat conduction value might be less but seals better and has high pressured value.

Suratsh.... I'm using PETRONAS Syntium 5000 0W/30.... I can tell you this oil works wonders for my E46 328i... The moment I change the oil I could feel the difference already... Better accelaration, much smoother and better fuel economy. PETRONAS is now partnering the BMW Sauber F1 team... In the past I have used Motul Fully Syn... that's another excellent oil... But I will surely recommend anyone to the PETRONAS Fully Syn range...

p/s Buy these lubes directly from the authorised distributor or the respective petrol stations ONLY.... too many fake oils out there....
