I concur to the above as well but for me, after using 5W-30, I am not going back to weight 40 oil, no way!..

Is bardahl fully syn 5-30 be the same as this? If true RM95 per 4 ltr is CHEAP!!!

American standard of synthetic oil is different from the European. In US or Canada, they call it 100% Synthetic which is equivalent to Semi-Synthetic in Europe. So your guess is as good as mine..

There's a detail comment from Schwepps about American and Canadian blenders, he may have commented on Torco but it should be applicable to Bardahl as well since they too are American company.

You can actually get them at RM78/4L.. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/850107

Agree with AstroBoy. The term "Synthetic" is very over-use in US soil, but is not so bad than only equilvalent to semi-sync in Europe.

Trust no word "Synthetic". Read the spec and qualification.

For what reason ? Try to get few more ponies ? :D
30 weight is fine for normal use. But if you rev as much as I do in this Malaysia hot weather, extra protection from weight 40 is never a bad thing. My opinion, weight 30 is too low in cSt in high temperature, and HTHS protection.
And if I remember correctly, BMW recommend 5w-40 Castrol EDGE motor oil for M3-E46. It might be for some other reason but I go for the theory weight 40 give better protection when you drive your car hard ;)

Thanks bro for the details..

This make no different from Castrol Megnatec 5-40 selling at Carefour for RM89.. Good point is the Bardahl now come with free can of Baredahl 1 for every bottle of 4 ltr purchased

For me, I buy 1 bottle of Castrol Edge fully synthetic 5w-40 at RM150/4L and it comes with BMW Club Malaysia membership renewal, free and also got t-shirt.. :p

Why the E90 user manual does not state the recommended oil viscosity?

Because there's none. Car manufacturer normally gives you a table because it depends on the climate where u live in.. viscosity of xW-y where x in the winter temperature. So "x" is the winter cool start temperature u live in and "y" is the SAE rating for the thickness of the oil.

Well, actually the number of X & Y indicates the viscosity of the oil at cold and hot temperature.
For the X, the lower the oil, the "thicker" it is when it is cold.
Same thing for weight Y, the higher it is, it will stay "thicker" when is hot.

That is why 15w-50 oil is possible for Malaysia weather.

So confusing . . So many different opinion haha . . my car is about time to change engine oil again . My current oil is the shell helix ultra 5w-40 . . should i keep the same oil or change to castrol ? ? ? any reccommandation ?

Bro Turbology, Changed engine oil yesterday with 5w-40 Castrol EDGE on my E39 520i 2001 M54B22. Is it suitable?

Yeah.. is fine.
I have the same Castrol EDGE 5w-40 in my car.Just change in 1 week plus ago.
Replaced 6 spark plugs at the same time too.

With a full tank of fresh gas, I just clocked 260+KM at middle mark of gas guage.
Who knows? I might break my own record of 440+KM per tank for in town driving, with fresh oil & fresh plugs. Woohoo!!

U can do 500km with 5w-30.. :p

Very good engine oil additive. Can even pro-long engine oil.

You guys should try this engine oil additive called REVO which selling in ENEOS car centre. 1Utama. My E60 feel much more smoother and power after using it within half and hour. :top:
www.revooil.com

For such a niche market, if Castrol, Shell, Valvoline, Mobil/Esso dont' sell it, it mean IT DOES NOT WORK.
NEVER USE ENGINE OIL ADDITIVE !! :76:
