:) yup,i agree with Pussy.always give ur engine the best in everything..next to the tyres and brakes, the engine is the most vital part of ur car..

Mineral oil??? no wonder... U wanna run constant 200 for extended period but use mineral oil... ini cari pasalnye leh.... ;)

I used to use Mobil 1 fully synthetic but I find that the oil goes missing - about 1 litre disappears after 10k. That's why I changed to a thicker oil a few months ago which solved the problem of missing oil
How about if I change to semi syn from now on ?

For any normal or reasonable engine condition you will not lose any engine, unless for a long period of time u did not change the engine oil, this will not lose more than 0.5 of a litre. If it does there should be something wrong with the engine regardless what type of engine oil. So may be in your case the piston ring is already worn out before it blow out in total.

lose 1 litre of oil i think its normal especially you travel a lot and push harder. Me experienced lose 2 litre from my last service...that after got trip to Kelantan. I am using Q8 fully syn that time, service at interval of 9000km...now change to Q8 semi.

cheers.

Let's not jump into a conclusion so fast la. I have used mineral oil and have cruised at speeds above 180 on my regular trips to Penang and had no whatsoever problem. Whether you are cruising at 180km/hr or getting stucked at a bad traffic jam, the effect is the same. Oil is always circulated and cooled at the evaporator.

When an engine is old, plenty of things can go wrong. In this case, plenty of engine oil has gone missing, which points to a blown gasket. If the internals are all burnt with the engine intact then it will be the oil problem (assuming the oil pump is working).

driving constantly at that ridiculous speed...i aint surprise dude...
i guess the slogans and all the advertising about speed kills don't apply or make any sense to you.
good luck!
i beg to differ...

speed dont kill, STUPIDITY and RECKLESSNESS DOES!!!

Regards.

i dont think sustained high speeds OR mineral oil did the engine in. sorry, ozone, but did u check ur oil levels before starting off on ur journey? levels could already be low when u started out. also, if ur engine is already old and worn, u will probably get higher oil consumption than normal.

anyway sorry u had to experience this. good luck man!

Sorry to hear.....and like some forumers has already mentioned.....bring car back, so the engine can be replaced?exchanged at a place u trust, and a place where u can view the work easily.

prolonged high speed not issue....if preventive maintenance taken care of....oil, water etc etc.....I wun go into oil type for ur high speed running cos as said, we dun know what conditions ur car was and what oil level it was when it let go...

anyway, all the best.

Agree with Albundy mineral oils are ok as long they are change every 3months or 5000kms.To me I use fully syn coz I malas to change my oil every 5000kms.

my mineral oil less than 1,000km old !
Anyway got the final cost :
Engine - RM 4,500
Labour - RM 550
Other parts - gaskets, engine oil, auto oil etc and what not - RM 950
Car will be ready next Tuesday !
I have asked for shell fully synthetic after reading the mails this morning now new mails say not an issue - susah lah - how ?

ozone, it really doesnt matter what type of oil u use. its more important that u check ur oil regularly, and before u go on ur trips. for all u know, u might have a leaky oil seal (old engine) and when u started out the engine was already near to dry. always check ur oil before heading out on a long distance/high speed run, regardless if its 1 week old or 1 day old.

that said, if u do drive hard/fast often, its a good idea to invest in synthetic oil. it withstands high heat environments better and doesnt break down as quickly under extreme conditions.

good luck! be sure to clean out ur radiator and coolant hoses of oil before filling it up again.

i feel for you mate. I guess the possibilities are endless vis-a-vis your scenario. Nonetheless, look at the bright side, your 6-banger will be revitalized & refreshed ;) God bless dude

since u said ur engine aledi consuming oil before this happened, so it's aledi a telltale sign of things to come...

Final bill :
Engine RM 4500
Labour and other misc parts RM 1491

I have been asked by the workshop who sourced the engine for me not to change the engine number at JPJ for another 2 to 3 weeks until I am satisfied that the engine is OK if not, I can change it. But it sound OK. And drive OK. But then again only drove it home from office.

Anyway, I have not got the AP papers yet - also have not paid him yet !
But I have informed insurance company of the change.

Anyone can let me know where do I check the engine number on the engine ?
