Where are the continental tyres supporters. Anyone supporting Michelins or Continental? :yahoo:

would love to support, but then too pricey leh... :D
they are good but looking in terms of value for money, not that good la ...my dua sen

leakwoon, err...no no no..170kmh in wet conditions...no no no...dont try it...not advisable at all..not matter what tires ur on ok bro....rain time we chill :D

Vinson,
Well...michelin n pirellis are worth mentioning to me...like most of u guys...some of us have tried various types of tires...as for me...my experience with the Continental tires did nothing to impress me...quite the opposite really..dissapointed with its performance considering the amount of money spent on them...( no pun intended to those using CSC's rite now...point of note i was NOT using the best CSC's tho but still)..I still stick to jap tires for now... :D

ylkhor,
well bro..i agree with u on this :D

Sifus, i'm not a perf driver. Just need to cruise and do city driving. But I do place importance in comfort, good handling in both dry/wet conditions and a quiet ride. Currently, I'm on 15"s that came stock with the car. What are your views on changing 15"s to 17"s? Would the car be noisier, bumpier, and more sluggish? Looks wise, i know 17"s will shine of course. Please enlighten a total newbie.

Tyre noise will be higher due to larger contact patch. Your 15" stock is 195mm, 17" will be 225mm ...that's extra 30mm contact patch for each tyre on the road. Better tyres with silica compound would be quieter and depending on the tyre thread too. Larger outer blocks would be noisier. But then again, noise is subjective to ppl ...some say bearable, some say noisy, some say didnt notice.

Bumpier also yes, bcos tyre side walls are stiffer ...that's why u see the walls flat unlike comfort tyres that looks like a bulge for better cushioning and flexes.

Sluggish is also yes but not that significant if your car has lots of torque. It's due to larger contact patch = higher friction = or they call it rolling resistance. Michelin Energy tyres has lower rolling resistance hence better fuel consumption too. But Energy tyres dont come in low profile :D

ALL IN ALL ....buying a bimmer esp a 3 series like yourself, means you wan sportiness la ...17" is a min to have and all the way to 19". You WON'T regret it! :yahoo:

lukesoon,

ylkhor has given u a very good explanation to ur question...good advice ylkhor...anyways i just want to mention that think carefully before u buy ur rims...i know jumping for a 15' to 17' size rim sounds a lot but the result that you'll get will also depend on ur ride height ie. suspension and spring settings
Good luck :D

cklim, i used ZE-326 for about a year on my ex-putra 195/50 R15. Didnt come close to ST115 performance. 326 is biased towards comfort and quieter. On the same size of ST115 on my putra, same corner, ST115 can take at least 10kph more before starting to screech.

What's your preferences la, sports or comfort?

I prefer comfort & quiet, at the same time has the sporty look. U know la... old man in old car ma... heehee :D . Currently my Yokohama S306 is oredy 4 years plus, but still has 60% tread!! Not sure it is bcoz of my slow driving or the tyre is durable :dunno: ?

how come nobody talks about yokohama..? i believe they promoted several of their models at klims the other day... seemed like everybody were yoko fans... yes?

chubby

falken 452 eh?

i ll keep an eye on it as the price is cheaper than the SP9000, which didnt stir a lot of support from another thread i opened

452 is about 60 pounds per tyre for 225/40/r18 on the falken offficial website. how much did you get yours?

i need 255/35/18 for the rear too

is it quiet?

I just changed both my rear 255/35 (18') tyres from so3 to ps2 this morning. will update everyone of the differences in few days. btw, pm me if anyone's interested to get a second hand so3 (70% thread) - just 1 piece (255/35).

Ck...i got my 452's for about 105 pounds after conversion that is...cool to hear its cheaper over there in the UK...So far no problems...corners are crisp due to steel sidewall...top on my list will still be SO3's but price is top notch as well :D

PS2 good tires as well...

Eddie..thanks for the site bro...

:)
