Fish tail is a secondary oversteer, very deadly and quite impossible to catch. Fish tail refer to wagging of tail, normally caused by over counter of oversteer.

To rectify a fish tail, u have to decelerate, and try to aim the car with the steering rather than wait for car to react to the steering, and of course PRAY! Correct me if I'm wrong.. I get extremely excited when encounter fish tail, multiple opposite lock oversteers.. :D

During fishtailing, the rear end of the car skids to one side, which must be offset by the driver by turning the front wheels in the same direction, steer into the skid, (e.g. left if the rear swings left) and reducing engine power. Over-correction will result in a skid in the opposite direction, - hence the name. Without a proper driver's reaction, the fishtailing car will spin; due to eventual loss of grip from the front wheels as well. The instinctive response (to steer right if the rear swings left or vice versa) will worsen the spin

I guess all the sifu's here have spoken. So the best thing to do is to have more tyre thread on your rear end to avoid fishtail, spinning and losing total control of the car.

I had a fish tail once and i tried to countersteer and eventually too much and that caused the car to re-bound. That made me panic and jammed the break. The car went into a spin and dead stop. The tyre burn mark on the road left a figure 8.

for fish tailing aka secondary or xxxdary xxxdary oversteer...u need to steer your steering lightning fast to counter each oversteering direction in order to cancel off the energy of the cars dynamic lateral movement caused by over counter steering during the primary oversteering...

definately a very hard thing to do as u need to remain calm and feel the car...but most of the time we panic liau so did not do anything just wait for the car to end up at railing or wall or just stop in middle of the road...

front.
better handling during rain
and when dry, botak tire stick better in rear. :D :D

that's why they call you and me the 'rain master'

Actually, i have a question to this thread, for wet or dry ?? sounds like more to wet condition..

' it is wise to have it more at the back or lesser at the front during heavy Rain ? '

in the dry, nobody cares, right ? the tyres will surely grip even less than 1.5mm...even during the gymkhana, most of the cars had bald tyres at the rears...

most of us are not fools to drive faster in the rain knowing that the rear thread or the front is 3mm lesser...

Now, conti have raised the tyre marker to 5mm on their thread checker cos the with 3mm, some hero's can still think that it is safe... even 80km/h is not safe.. any speed above is aquaplaning..

given 2 choices.. a porsche911 and a kelisa during heavy rain...

which will be more controllable ?

The answer to the first part is in Malaysian weather lor, unless your are the kind that keep extra sets of tyres at home and change according to the season la, which most of us don't. I wish I can, and I used to.. botak tyre for daily use, treaded one for balik kampung use :p

I normally don't bother about tyre markers as I run my tyres till the canvas on all my others cars up to 195 in size... :p until I uses 225 tyres, super easy to hydroplan, even with 5mm tread. :(

Yes, I love speeding in the rain, coz no road blocks ma.. :D :D :D and of course piss off with hoggers that can't drive "fast", yet hog the fast lane.. :( No rain I drive 120kph, got rain, I drive 140kph.. :p If front 225 tyres 7mm tread also hydroplan.. :p That why all my front tyres are better tread.. :D :D
