I have both the cable in one car and the iPod adapter in the other.
My iPod Adapter cannot charge iPod Touch, I am forced to use iPod Classic only.
The cable can charge both iPod Touch and iPod Classic.

my adapter cable is charging the iPod battery as well.. Eh why do you prefer the cable to the adapter ya..
saat;475893 said:Both of my E90 are non-iDrive. The User Interface (Menu Structure) is via the MID.
The menu via the cable is better than the iPod Interface.
Using the cable, the iPod appears as iPod on the MID. The CDC selection is still there. But the AUX selection is missing. The Menu shows the literals "Genre", "Singer", "Album", "Playlist".
CDC needs to be selected to play the iPod thru the iPod interface. You have to press 1 for Playlist, 2 for Singer, 3 for Album and 4 for Genre.
I think the cable interface is more intuitive.
The cable charges both iPod Classic and iPod Touch.
My iPod Interface does not charge iPod touch.
My dotter's mini iPod interface also does not charge iPod Touch.

When I mention "cable", I am referring to the BMW "Cable adapter for Apple iPod" mentioned in my previous post. This cable can be plugged into the USB and AUX port of the car. When installed, the iPoD is in center armrest.
When I mention "iPoD Interface", I am referring to the BMW interface adapter mod for the Apple iPoD which consist of a little black box, a wiring loom, iPod Adapter cable and changes to the car software system. When installed the iPod is situated in the glove box.
Both are called officially referred to as iPoD adapters.
I have both installed in different E90.
When I mention the MID (Multi Information Display), I am referring to the small slit of a display on the dash below the CD slot on the E90.
The BMW stereo system does not really have a head unit cos the stereo architecture consists of a min of 2 parts, i.e the MID and its controls and the box at the back. So there is no "Head Unit" per se. The MID is also connected to and is used to control/display other systems.
