I finally got an ipod fix to my car. cannot believe it...just a simple cable, input aux. i can still interchange to cd / radio at anytime. the selection of songs must be done at the ipod though. the cable is a good one so cost quite a bit, but the quality of songs, even though mp3 is still very good...

i've been using ipod direct interface setup in SA. This is my experience..

Audio quality is fantastic, I can access to 24,000 songs roughly..the standard system is not able to display 24000 songs when you scroll down. What I did is I go to songs menu and set "random all". It will be able to play songs from 1st to the 24,000th. If it jump randomly, it will be able to reach 23999th, 24000th song.

1 problem, sometimes the ipod classic will hang, and you will need to reset it at the ipod. This happens maybe once a month.

my car doesnt have idrive, so how does it works?

i try plugging in my pod to the usb, but it shows error on the HU, but it charges my ipod though

Please check whether it will charge iPod Touch.

I have both the cable in one car and the iPod adapter in the other.
My iPod Adapter cannot charge iPod Touch, I am forced to use iPod Classic only.
The cable can charge both iPod Touch and iPod Classic.

THanks a lot!!!!!! u are my savour

wonder would spore sell this cable cheaper ?
im begining to love this forum aredi :top:

Wait, I have one more thing to test.
I hooked up my PDA to the USB port and I found that I can use the MID to look into the phone content and it wanted to play some of the music files. There is a trick that needs to be done through.

Let me try with my ext HDD. If it is able to read and play, then the USB cable is only RM15 (and an HDD).

If I can make it work, how much you want to pay me.

Both of my E90 are non-iDrive. The User Interface (Menu Structure) is via the MID.

The menu via the cable is better than the iPod Interface.

Using the cable, the iPod appears as iPod on the MID. The CDC selection is still there. But the AUX selection is missing. The Menu shows the literals "Genre", "Singer", "Album", "Playlist".

CDC needs to be selected to play the iPod thru the iPod interface. You have to press 1 for Playlist, 2 for Singer, 3 for Album and 4 for Genre.

I think the cable interface is more intuitive.
The cable charges both iPod Classic and iPod Touch.
My iPod Interface does not charge iPod touch.
My dotter's mini iPod interface also does not charge iPod Touch.

hi saat
i think i get a bit confused on the iPod interface and the cable. What i meant was the iPod adapter cable with USB and aux connected to the center armrest console and the the Head unit is used to control the menu.
when you refer to the iPod interface, is it the one fitted under the glove compartment?

Sorry, even I confused myself by my naming.

When I mention "cable", I am referring to the BMW "Cable adapter for Apple iPod" mentioned in my previous post. This cable can be plugged into the USB and AUX port of the car. When installed, the iPoD is in center armrest.

When I mention "iPoD Interface", I am referring to the BMW interface adapter mod for the Apple iPoD which consist of a little black box, a wiring loom, iPod Adapter cable and changes to the car software system. When installed the iPod is situated in the glove box.

Both are called officially referred to as iPoD adapters.

I have both installed in different E90.

When I mention the MID (Multi Information Display), I am referring to the small slit of a display on the dash below the CD slot on the E90.

The BMW stereo system does not really have a head unit cos the stereo architecture consists of a min of 2 parts, i.e the MID and its controls and the box at the back. So there is no "Head Unit" per se. The MID is also connected to and is used to control/display other systems.

ahhh that clears the definition welll:top:...do you find any differences in sound quality when comparing both of the interfaces

I gave up on Mp3 sound quality long ago.

Between the 2, I think they are equally bad. Hardly any perceptible difference.

Anyways, tried with my HDD this morning, and it does not work.

I can play (terrible sound) MP3 installed on my phone memory card.

saat, couldnt work eh?

this morning got the cable from AB, heng got stock, last one, tak boleh tahan, fast fast buy
dunno is it placebo effect, but it sounds better than the direct AUX jack

btw, thanks again for providing the part number and confrimation it works, dem happy now
