iDrive upgrade/retrofit CCC -> CIC

Apparently, tech-junkie owners of older pre-LCI E90s (like me) now have the option of upgrading our iDrives to the new CIC iDrives found in LCI cars. Here's the link to the info I found. Yes you will need a new dashboard in order to fit the iDrive.

I have messaged the vendor.. and will post his replies here.

Why, pray tell? I enquired about retrofitting Voice Command on my 325i Sports, which already has the buttons and mic for it, but it was going to cost RM17k because my unit doesn't have the wiring loom for it. How much do you think it's going to cost to retrofit your units if you don't already have iDrive, AND change the dash?

Better buy a new car with iDrive.

LOL schwepps, i'd love to retrofit with Voice command too if possible. Try asking from another BMW authorize dealer? give them your VIN number, and they should able to check and reconfirm your vehicle with wire harness in it.

Yes, I did check through my VIN, lipguan, but I already knew from past experience. CKDs come with limited wiring looms catering only to pre-ordered options. Hence 17k+ to fit loom and control unit for 'voice command'. CBUs come with universal looms catering to almost all the options available at the time of manufacture. Then it would be 3k+ to fit the control unit for 'voice command'. That's the deal. :wink:

Ni Bro, just wonder whats the damage to retrofit the I-Drive (complete set) with installation? i am really interested, plan to use an E90 325 old facelift, can it be fit in my car? Its not the new LCI anyway. Pls Advise
