Dear all Sifu & Guru, just brought a recond Japan spec e60 525 , an upgrade from my e46. My humble request for help/info is:1. My dealer brought me to an audiworkshop ( CV Car auto off jln Kuuchai Maju, same company who advertise in mototrader for iphone integration to bmw ). I ask for an dension 500GW installation for my Iphone/ipod, and was quoted RM 2300 with free FM booster.2. was reading intensively the forum found that i may need to do a CCC software upgrade or it will use FM transmiter ? unless aux-in is enabled.3. if i want to do a CCC upgrade , how much and where the best place , was reading that too many forum member was saying CCC upgrade by non expert will fry the CCC 4. CV auto also quote me a CCC upgrade will cost RM 1.2k !, but i was reading some other thread it can be done below RM 400 ?5.i am looking to install Garmin gps next year due to budget constrain and economy outlook. so where should i do it and what to lookout for .6.also i am looking for cheap and good 17" rim for my e60 any recommendation, replica is ok also , since i tend to break my rim every 1 - 2 year ( i am bad at parking and luck on road ) thanks for your reply and help.i be getting the car in few day time.

congratulations to your purchase and welcome to the club...for CCC upgrade there are plenty of posts on the forum just search and happy reading. most likely you will end up in obermaiers...

you should already have at least 17" or 18" rims that came with your car? if you're interested, i have a set of 17" with good tires for sale at http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21722 check it out and let me know thx

Dark1234,
Regarding your questions:

1) Since your car is a Japanese specs (like mine), there are lots of functions that your car doesn't have, such as DVD player & Sat Nav system. My suggestion is that you determine on what functions that you want for your car before installing anything. By the way, Dension is a very cool gadget that let you integrate iPod and USB to your Activve Steering buttons... if my CD changer is working well, I could have installed Dension already... sigh! the price is about right. But don't install FM booster... it'll affect ur car, plus even with the booster, reception is also bad.

2) Yes there is CCC upgrade... as in changing the whole Japan spec CCC to UK/MYS spec... upon doing that, you will have full radio function, DVD, MP3, Sat Nav system. But 1st you will need upgrade your car's software...

3) if not mistaken, Obermaier in Jalan Ipoh is highly recommended here in this forum. A lot of credits given to the person in charge, Freddy, for his good workmanship... google up the place's details ok??? It should cost somewhere between RM8-9k. By the way, once you change the CCC... everything will work just fine and I am sure that the Audio Aux will be in your iDrive screen

4) Once you swap the CCC, you don't have to do anything anymore... CV Audio is the place to fix aftermarket audio system... they had done my car already. So far satisfied with their workmanship.

5) Once you change the CCC, you will have the Sat Nav system together... so there's no need for Garmin GPS. Unless you go for the second option which is to upgrade your CCC to the latest version, install interface and then Garmin Gvn 53... it should cost about RM2500... CV Audio has this...

6) About rim.. pls ask other forumers here... good luck :top:

P.S: Sometimes it's not about finding the cheapest deal in the market... buying a BMW means that you have to find someone who can provide an excellent service and good workmanship... maybe they are not the cheapest, but also not the most expensive... CV Audio is good in this... so make up your mind

thanks for the info,

i read some horror story of CCC conversion that cause the SSS to have problem,
if i want to upgrade my japan CCC software to the latest version wheres the best and safe place to go ?

because i read if i do not update it , the dension will use FM transmiter which make the whole quality bad.

thanks bro thule , i have make up my mind with CV audio . but unsure on the CCC software upgraded is required or not .

my sat nav project is on hold till next year.

thanks

That's correct... for your info, I actually took the risk and upgrade my E60's software from v25 to v30... as there's no Audio Aux in my iDrive, and I don't wanna compromise the sound quality of my car...
Wherever or whatever workshop that you go that provide Progman (CCC software upgrade)... there's no guarantee that your car's CCC won't get fried during the process. So there is actually pros and cons in both method...
Since your E60 is year 2004... you definitely have to update the software... mine is 2005 model and it's only v25. Only E60 with V28 and above will have the Audio Aux in the iDrive :D if you are not sure... start your car, look at your iDrive screen. Select Entertainment and see if there's Audio Aux or not. It should be somewhere in between MD & TV
Good luck!!!

thule just direct him to the link tat u posted the "Audio Aux" picture for me last time ma...lidat more easier wat, haha

thule...Audio Aux is a retrofit option which can be enable via retrofit coding...and not by updating the software version as u mentioned. If your car VO does not register these option/retrofit, even if u update the software, the Audio Aux wont appear on its own.
