hello beemer lovers.im getting my 320d this week. i would like to ask what is the difference between the idrive in a 320d and then the 328 version?ive been reading that the 320d idrive has less features but cant seem to tell what exactly. Can anyone identify this? sorry im a newbie to bmw and am getting my very first one to drive soon. im using a blackberry currently and am wondering if the idrive supports emails msging, phonecalls, contacts and etc?hope to hear from you guys! Thanks!

Definitely without Sat nav and the size of the lcd is only 6.5 inch.

But I'm very confuse on the ConnectedDrive topic as both 320d and 320i should have the same spec idrive. But here are some interesting findings, during the first announcement of the 320d ckd, according to paultan.org (http://paultan.org/2012/06/04/bmw-328i-and-320d-locally-assembled-f30-launched/) it said 320d no sat nav and ConnectedDrive apps.

However, based on the recent 320i announcement, paultan.org (http://paultan.org/2012/09/20/bmw-320i-officially-announced-luxury-and-sport/) now state that the 320i "come with BMW Live and BMW TeleServices, accessed via a 6.5-inch free-standing LCD panel and iDrive controller. BMW ConnectedDrive provides owners with complete USB and Bluetooth connectivity to link in smart phones and portable music players, providing on-board mobile office applications and on-board Internet." So which is which?? Aren't 320d and 320i supposed to have the same spec or is there a mistake in the announcement? I'll be a very happy man if 320i does comes with the stuffs mentioned above since I thought the idrive is going to be disappointing.

Here are somemore website saying the samething about the 320i idrive, let's hope they're right!

ya, i found out about not having nav and multimedia capabilities, but was wondering what else that was different from the higher range bmw's. my SA from Quill doesn't seem to be fluent with the iDrive. :(

Steve, i believe the 320d and 320i should be more or less identical in terms of their features. i went to bmw malaysia and did a comparison between the both and in terms of idrive feature, is the same.

I test drove the F30 320i yesterday and noticed that it didn't have Sat Nav, DVD player but I did see the options for the BMW Live option. Basically it allows you to search through the web (when you sync your phone via Bluetooth) and it uses your phone data. On the older E90 series you can search through google for let's say a restaurant and find the address there. From the app you can link the address to the map function to find the location of the restaurant.

Hi Mavik, does the 320i allows us to play music from our smart phones? And how does the BMW Live allow us to search through web? Social web like facebook and twitter usable?

Yes it does, if the 320i and 320D shares the same iDrive. I can play the music on my iPhone either via bluetooth or plugged into the USB in the armrest. Even the album cover picture for the respective songs are displayed on the 6.5 inch display panel.
