The other day I was in a friend brand new Merc C200.He drove like 110km.You know I was surprised it was so noisy,i thought there was a truck or something by the side.MY ride is much more quiter even at 160kph.Anyway I might get bashed if I post this to Merc forum so I am safe here, preaching to the converted..ha.ha.Always with BMW will never get a Merc..

good choice of car and model...

btw, join us for TT of official TT...

There are other factors as well ; age of car, type of tires, road surface, door lining, type of cat food (he he he.,) ..

I find that the E60 has better insulation than the E90.

Can't comment abt Merc coz ....

E90 how to compare with E60 lar.. different class of bmw. even CKD and CBU for same model also got difference in the noise insulation.

For quiet, get a 5 series, E Class or Lexus. The 3 series defined the sports saloon genre...it should be a bit raw. In fact the E90 is sometimes too quiet. Remember the E30 and E36? ;)

Well the E90 is newer than the E60, and is safer. Yep, the smaller 3 series has better safety ratings (esp side impact where most deaths happen) for frontal and side impact compared to the current 5 series.

Check out the safety rating comparison below:

Too quiet? Hahaha... I remember when I moved from my first car (13 year old Honda Accord) to my 2nd car (new E36), I was so amazed by the quietness, that I immediately started playing classical music while driving. Finally I could listen to Beethoven, Mozart, etc on the road. Previously all I heard was road noise.

Well, I moved to an E36 from a silky Volvo 760, so it was pleasantly raw. :D

Even now, I prefer Urban and R&B, so a bit of engine shriek matches the music. ;)

Actually it is the same. All materials used in SKD (thats what its call now) are imported from Germany as we witnessed in our last factory visit. It is the PERCEPTION that needs to be corrected :)

Cheers

I think the noise is due to the rough 4 pot supercharged engine. Insulation wise I think the Merc is pretty good :)

Cheers

Yep! The worst of the 3s being compared is E36.. :( (A lot worsen than Waja)

E36 vs. Waja

If a traffic accident were to occur (touch wood :p), the E90 is worth every single sen of the quarter million Ringgit you paid for.... depreciation is nothing compare to lives and limbs saved! :top:

Talking about quietness.. my first experience with E90 is when cruising at 160kph, all I hear is a slight cabin humming of dunno its the RFT or wind drag... and it reminds me of my ride in the Eurostar (identical humming), the trans Europe bullet train... with signs on the cabin "Please switch off your phone".. because a phone ring can wake up a sleeping passenger 2 cabins away..

Am running CS3 - hums till circa 110 - 120 kmh .. it's pretty quiet after that.:top:
Was on Yoko Advan - no hums at any speed ..

The e46 was improved by leaps & bounds in terms of safety compared to the e36. If you wanna compare safety standards, better to compare the Iswara to the e36.. both almost the same standard:rolleyes:

But still, I like my e36 a lot coz that fler is power:biggrin:

hah .... e30 is still the best - safe(during the 90's) and raw power... especially the ///M....

noise ? i rather hear the sweet music of the engine...

yup, plus cat food thrown in.

Bro pussy, I agree with you that the E30 was a classic. But my intro to BMW was going out as a teen in an older guy's 2002Tii in the days when KL streets were empty after 7pm. Talk about raw thrill!

Maybe but I personally feel that the CBU have less wind noise as compare to local assemble car for an E46.
