Hi All,Today I was stopped & summon (under table la :p ) by JPJ. They said mine is too dark. Wow! I really don't think so. Unfortunately I got no photo to show you all. Feeling intimidated, I gave into them.Would appreciate anyone can tell me how to evaluate the tinting level & where to get it done so I can defend myself in future.PS: They judge by their super gadget; their eyes!!

i think theres no other way because if they say so, then it will be so

even if you dont have tint on

sad case

Firstly, where did you get the tinting done? Was there any claims from the tint shop that the film was JPJ compliant? If YES, go back and give them a good shelling.

Secondly, if I'm not mistaken JPJ officers having a TINT Operasi should be equipped with a gadget which requires the officers to measure the light penetration on you glass screen. If not, you have the right to question them.

hope this helps.

It helps Jeff. The tinting was done by previous owner. No idea where it is done.

See how thing goes.... :(

Well from what I know is that light penetration in the is at least 70% and the rest is 60%. But if I am not mistaken most if not of the newer model of Bimmers have a natural tint in the glass it self which is already compliant to the standards of puspakom. So even if you have tinted it 10% its already illegal. As for me in total natural tint + extra tint.,
Front 60%
The rest 120%
I have not gotten into trouble yet in KL but in JB I have been stopped 3 times already. In KL I have driven thru numerous JPJ and Police block without any problem so not so sure about your case. And my tinting is black.

JPJ do have a gadget to measure the % of light penetration known as Visible Light Transmittance (VLT), and % of light deflected known as Visible Light Reflected (VLR).

Our JPJ ruling are minimum 70% VLT for front and rear windscreen, and 50% for side windows. Any less VLT, and u are liable for summons.

And you can ask them to show with the gadget the VLT of yr glasses..... but make damn sure that yr tinting is way above the legal limit.... else u get slapped with a summons and ticked off by them, coz u press them to prove u wrong ma.....

All tint shops claim their film is legal, which is true if measured by their film alone. But did they take into considerations of the natural tint prevailing in our original glass?? Did anyone bothered to ask them (the tint shops) to use the gadgets to prove the VLT after installation is within the JPJ ruling??? Guess not..... so take your own risk, irregardless of brand....

well i must be one lucky person then, my side windows are 140%, the back 90% and the front is 60%..havent been stopped (touch wood)....
