How long before new tyres wear in?

Hey guys,I jsut changed new tyres. Is it possible for someone to tell me how far they should travel before they bite properly?I was told by a friend to wait till i had done 1000km. Yes?I have been taking it easy for the last 500km.Thanks.jOn

500 km will do. That's what I've been doing and so far no problem. Advice given by one of my tyre supplier long time ago.

zul is right.... it take about 500km for the tyres to run in...
