How do you know your fuel pump is failing???

That's the external fuel pump for the M20.. For the 318i, the fuel pump is inside the tank beneath the rear passenger seat on the right.

old skool e30 had pumps outside of the tank, these motors were more robust, but still had the tendency to fail, but the famous buzzing will be heard out loud before it kaputs

newer pumps were inside the tank, these pumps were also prone to failure due to another reason- and its not being not submerged in the fuel, its the extended tank pressure that has detrimental effects on the internal parts of the pump, another reason it last abit longer is because you don't hear it buzzing as it is soaked in the petrol, which makes it worst as you don't know when its gonna fail

there is a theory when the pump fails, a high jolted for a short time with enough electricity, it will go on till a drop in current......just a theory.....nnot proven yet

sifus, when u all are talking about the buzzing sound, what exactly kinda sound are you refering to? isit a buzz seems to come out of the direction of your speedometers? it's only sounding when you pedal your accelerators? cos i have such a "electronic" bzzz sound whenever i press on the accelerator. esp if i floor her on lower rpm. does is mean my fuel pump is gona be gone soon?

doesnt the fuel pump buzz all the time? my friend has an in car fuel pump(surge tank pump) and it buzz pretty loud especially on idle.

the buzz is constant in tone.....at least as per my recollection. It comes from the tank area.( under rear seats )

changed the fuel filter last week. it is right our petrol is not clean. veryy..kotor

But why you wanna upgrade the fuel power?

If still insist (dunno what that will do, prob. minimise some flat spots... just maybe) you really ought to be looking at the FR or AFR lerr....... to regulate the fuel pressure!
