Guys, i had a prob with my fuel pump over the weekend and the usual knocking around worked and so far so good...just wanna know 1) Does a high hissing sound mean the fuel pump is coming to a due or does it mean the fuel pump is working fine?2) What is the cost price a brand new fuel pump?how u guys can give me some feedback regarding the matter...cheers

Dear HARTGE5,

I had the same problem as you and was about to charged RM 980 for a new fule pump, had even gone to the stage of removing the old pump, but luckily I had the sense of checking the wiring first, and found out was actually the wirirng problem and finally only paid RM 80.00 for it,

The same as you said very high hissing sound and finally kaput (engine died) on the road, found out finally relay switch was the problem, now working fine (fingers crossed) already three months, so check that first.

Just from my experience.

Hope this helps,

Sukhjit.

mak dato, fuel pump RM980?
mine was RM535 for righthand side... for 318i 97

thanks for the feedbacks....i guess i will check the wiring after all...but is it normal to have loud hissing sound...as such on high performance racing fuel pumps....the sound to me was familiar to my friend who used a jap high preasure pump....is this normal?? usualy what is the life span for a fuel pump??....cheers

A high pitch sound can mean your fuel pump about to kaput. I had that sound in my other car, ignore it and kept driving for a few more months, until one day, the car just conked on a new highway. It can start & idle, but the moment you put it on gear, the engine dies. Had to tow to the w/shop. Turns out both fuel pumps have to change. The ori lasted >10 years.
