Dear all, This article is extracted from the Star Online-Motoring setion (Link), dated 14 June 2007. Anybody know what is the latest ruling on HID now?? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Crackdown on HID headlights The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will act against vehicle owners who modify their headlamps with bright high-intensity discharge (HID) xenon lights that are blinding to other motorists at night. JPJ Director of Enforcement Salim Parlan said the xenon lights could temporarily blind drivers of vehicles coming from the opposite direction or in front of them.

The HID assembly - ballast/ignitor and metal-halide lamp bulb. He said the JPJ had received several complaints from the public on these modified headlamps and would take immediate action against modification beyond the set standard under the Road Transport Act 1987. “These xenon lights are too bright and can obstruct the visibility of other road users at night. “This poses a danger to the other road users,” he said during an integrated traffic operation here yesterday. The Road Transport Act provides for a RM200 fine for modification to a vehicle without the approval of JPJ's technical authorities. Salim said the JPJ was considering regulations to prohibit the use of xenon lights on vehicles altogether. “We know that vehicles of several manufacturers use such lights. The JPJ will submit its application to introduce such regulations to the higher authorities for consideration,” he said. Commenting on the two-day traffic operation that began on Monday, he advised motorcyclists in the state to get valid licences and update their road tax. State JPJ Director Zahari Awang Senik said that during the operation, 123 summonses were issued for various offences. The operation involved several agencies including the JPJ, Department of Environment, police, National Anti-Drug Agency, Immigration Department, Road Safety Department and Anti-Corruption Agency. – Bernama - Posted by Anthony Lim

High intensity discharge lamps are never illegal for automotive use if its of the correct light temperature and properly aligned from blinding other motorist.

Modified cars are always illegal. PERIOD!

Use different size wheels also illegal what, just nobody complaint, so they don't bother ma.. :D

Bro Astro....

so gone la your chance put CF in and around your car.... hehe....

JpJ didnt have any rulings said that CF is illegal in terms of the law...hehehe

Bodykit extension kennot increase the dimension of the car by more than 10", then still legal!.. :D I got baca wan.. :D

if the cops/jpj are low on cash, then suddenly lot of things illegal one. heheh. of coz the newer bwm's can get away with HID. but the older ones, just have to grin and bear it.

Loose all hope those who walk in the dark with a torch to light the way.
Hail to the master Sycophants, hail!

HID and xenon are the same technology lah... Xenon is the gas used in the HID bulb...

BTW, retrofitted HID is deemed illegal... but then if you have projector lense and used HID bulbs with color temp below 5000K, they wouldn't know it's HID looking from outside...

HID are cheap to get nowadays. no stopping people to buy and install.
i tot some new cars are also fitted HID nowadays. its a good seller.
some more we have the height adjuster. can always put the headlights at a lower angle. rite not?

Understand car without projector lamps fitted HID will be too bright & glaring, that's why this JPJ's law/rule was made,

but if car fitted with projector lamps will NOT produce glares that irritate incoming drivers.., so will this law apply to HID fitted on projector lamps?

Any of you got caught on this issue by JPJ/Police?

There is no way any police enforcement officer on the road can do this. They should work with the right people, say JPJ. They have to have the right mandate and specification to police and enforce it. This should also be the part of the JPJ vehicle transfer inspection. Imagine an innocent buyer got whole of a car with illegal mods. The authority knows, but they also want to purposely make it vague mah... so, like a previous replied that for new car should be ok. The authority may not want to shoot themselves on their foot by contradicting the gov or JPJ approved products installed from the factory.

So, for those got from used car dealers & locally mod, will most likely need to be careful.

Frankly, this is one issue I loathe the most. My case, most of the P2, SUVs, and car mod is the culprit. The obvious one is those with a spoiled few dollar bulb, resort to high beam. Most of the time on modded cars somore, probably spend on stickers or "extra heavy" aero-visually-dynamic mods. They want to let other people see their mod mah...

The funny one is those that mod their fog light as the main beam, leaving the low & high beam off. This is outright glaring and dangerous trying to illuminate the road from such low angle, that also blind opposite and cars in front. The BMW is also one of the favourite victim as well. In general, most of us are irresponsible !@#$%^ when come to driving or vehicle ownership.

Sorry for my rant.
