Hello Guys,

I'm a newbie and just got myself an E90 325i M-Sport LCI (Year 2011). I have always been fascinated with BMW machines and this car is a beast!

Some background of the car: Purchased this machine from a friend who bought it brand new back in 2011. The car was serviced and maintained by Auto Bavaria till the end of last year (warranty expired). It has only been a few days since I got the car and the previous owner is asking me to replace the engine oil as it's about time.

I was wondering if anyone here can shed some light with my concerns below:

1) The car indicates that I need to service in the next 1000KM. What is the recommended engine oil that I can use? ODO meter clocked 120,000 KM.
2) What is the service interval for engine oil change? 10,000 KM?
3) When I do need to do a transmission fluid change? 20,000 KM?
4) What is the recommended transmission fluid?
5) What other stuff that needs to be replaced besides engine and transmission fluids?
6) Last but not least, which workshop that I can send the car to? Preferably Puchong, Sunway or USJ area. Heard a lot of good reviews about M-Speed USJ. How are they priced?

I'm thinking of servicing the car in the next few days. Any help or recommendation is very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Congrats again on owning the ride bro. Its one sweet ride.

First thing, would suggest you to go back to the the Auto Bavaria service center where your friend sent it for service, and register yourself as the new owner. U only need to produce proof of ownership and they'll settle the rest, no fees required here. Once that is done, and as a registered owner, U can ask the service center to print out the car's service records, means u'll have a full history of what was done or changed to the car, and a clearer understanding on the current condition of the car, and what to prioritize when it comes to maintenance. Thats what i did when i first got my pre-loved ride.

To shed some light on your queries:
1) The car indicates that I need to service in the next 1000KM. What is the recommended engine oil that I can use? ODO meter clocked 120,000 KM.
Use fully synthetic oil with BMW LL-01 spec. Rating may vary depending to owners/workshop, 0w-30, 5w-30, 0w-40
2) What is the service interval for engine oil change? 10,000 KM?
correct, 10,000km
3) When I do need to do a transmission fluid change? 20,000 KM?
Again, check with the service records if it was ever changed. Some change the transmission oil at 80,000km interval, or less, depending on your driving style. Assuming the car never changed the oil, would suggest u to do it. Normally u will change the transmissireferon oil pan too, as it comes with an integrated oil filter.
4) What is the recommended transmission fluid?
ZF. refer here http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/newforums/index.php?/topic/39019-zf-transmission-print-catalogs/
5) What other stuff that needs to be replaced besides engine and transmission fluids?
refer to the service history and prioritize. experienced mechanics wld be able to advise where to start. U may start from the cooling system (radiator, hoses, sensors etc). if there are signs of engine oil leakage, or u want a piece of mind, u can change all the engine gaskets, rings, seals etc.

Thank you much Bro Gendong. This is good info! :) I'll definitely get to the service center and obtain the list (what was changed, what was not, what needs to be replaced etc.) Never knew BMW had such a service.

I'll get in touch if I need any further advise. Thanks again buddy! :D

I am not sure if its GM or ZF, but generally, the same suggestion applies.

To be honest I'm not too sure bro. I recently went to Bavarian Auto Puchong to buy a bottle of coolant. According to the guys there, you just need to provide your chassis number and they would be able to advise you on the parts / transmission fluid etc for your car. Hope it helps.

How much you bought the coolant there?

Thanks Bro, would like to know how much the coolant. It's just top up into regulator?
Actually I also looking for a workshop able to just provide labour, plan to change transmission fluid.
Anyone can share price list of parts from Auto Bavaria?

Use fully synthetic oil with BMW LL-01 spec. Rating may vary depending to owners/workshop, 0w-30, 5w-30, 0w-40 . I'm currently running 0w-40 fully synthetic fluids just for the fun of it , and wouldn't recommend it mostly because it takes to long to come up the temperature (no scientific measurement was done to prove this ) , but felt the n52 engine really liked 5w-40 by liqui moly (leichlauf hightech?) over 0w-40 (liquimoly) and 5w-30 (motul) . The bentley service manual recommendes between 5w-30/40 so can't go wrong with these two.
2) What is the service interval for engine oil change? 10,000 KM?
correct, 10,000km

3) When I do need to do a transmission fluid change? 20,000 KM?

Assuming the car never changed the oil, would suggest u to do it. Normally u will change the transmissireferon oil pan too, as it comes with an integrated oil filter. There was a video by ZF that recommended 100,000km change interval. But yeah, what Gendong said on the rest.

4) What is the recommended transmission fluid?
ZF. refer here http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/newforums/index.php?/topic/39019-zf-transmission-print-catalogs/ . Dexron 6 or equivalent , don't need to be a snob and use ZF fluids. Swtiched to Using Liquimoly Toptec 4100 which meets Zf6hp19 specs . Abit pricey for the ZF gearbox because of integrated filter with oil pan.

5) What other stuff that needs to be replaced besides engine and transmission fluids?

U may start from the cooling system (radiator, hoses, sensors etc). if there are signs of engine oil leakage, or u want a piece of mind, u can change all the engine gaskets, rings, seals etc. IIRC , they revised the water pump designs for the LCI e90 (which was one of the weak points of the cooling system) which cost between 1.5k to 1.8k .
I'd suggest changing power steering fluids/reservoir , brake fluids ,rear diff fluids, cabin filters and intake filter . Spark plugs probably could do with a change too.

If budget allows, replace engine and gearbox mounts too.
My input comes from running a late 2007 e90 325i for the last 8 months, similarly bought from a friend at 150,000km. (havent started a new thread for that yet lol).

Besides my what ive added , i'd drive the car for a bit and see what issues crop up. More likely to only see some mild oil stains/leaks and nothing too major.

Its a lovely car to drive btw , though the m-sport suspension might annoy you after awhile

The coolant was RM32.00 (GST inclusive) for 1 bottle (1500 ml) from BA Puchong. Not sure if all the BA offers the same price.

I was advised that not all workshops would prefer the customers to bring their own parts. You may need to scout around bro....

I'm still deciding which workshop to go to and may drop by a few places for a quote this week :)

Thanks Bro d4ngerz0ne for the info. I'll drop by a few recommended workshops by our forumers to get a quote soon. :)
