Hi all,I just bought a second hand BMW523i E60 SE LCI 2007 last week. In order to ensure the safety of the car, I sent my car to a BMW specialist workshop to diagnose the car.I was told that the TCU unit is malfunction and is draining the battery from the car. Hence, I asked them to change the TCU unit. They installed a original TCU unit and proceed to program the car. After waiting for 1 hour, they told me that the programming cannot go through as the power cannot go through the CAS unit. They said this has happened before but does anyone encounter this before? Now the car cannot even start! Now they said that they will send the CAS unit to BMW for them to repair. If cannot be repaired, would need to order a new CAS unit which will take 3-4 weeks.I have not driven the car yet and now the car cannot start. Please help if you know anything. Many thanks in advance.

Bro, you mean put back the old TCU unit? I was told that even if I put back the old TCU (which cost almost RM3k) is useless, as the CAS unit is faulty, the car just wont start.

They say they are sending the CAS unit to Germany to repair it. Not sure whether this is the right way though.

ccs1986,

If I were you, I would seek a 2nd opinion from another workshop. By the way, which workshop did you send your car to?

send back to germany? never hear somting like this b4.... sound fishy

Just listen to our Vice Presidenr advice, he can guide you a proper manner...Herbert is sifu here...:top:

previously can start....now kenot start.why shouldn't the car start if the old tcu is refitted?
did they even try?

were there any problems before sending your car to the workshop?
IMO I think they might have messed up and instead of admitting it, they are asking you to pay for it. BTW CAS is the same as EWS rite?? If I am not mistaken Merc use the term CAS.

If you need help with repairing the CAS I might know of someone who can probably repair it without sending it to germany.

Thanks all for your help. They managed to repair the CAS by sending to someone (not sure where they sent to), but the car is up and running now. =)

The workshop only charged me for the service charge for the delivery around RM400. I think the CAS was locked, not spoilt, so they sent it to reprogramme only.

Btw, I am thinking of replacing the tyres. Currently using Bridgestone Run Flat Tyre 245/45R17. Anyone got any recommendations for Run Flat Tyre? Any other brand better etc? And where to source for cheaper tyres? Thanks!
