I recommend not doing it by yourself if you're not confident. This involves drilling some tricky parts of your cluster as I've shown to some of you last night.

The installation instructions should've been included by the seller but was missing. Bro bmw7833 will try to get hold of the instruction and post it here somehow.

I am haywire protégé. We spent hours getting it done on E53 X5. X5 cluster similar to E39. This is not straight forward DIY my friend. That is why someone is charging about RM500 to get it done. I suggest haywire to do a 'clinic'. If someone not confident to do it, pay him. Maybe RM100. Why I said so. Let me line up below some steps :

1. To remove the instrument cluster (easy job)
2. Tp remove the meter cluster from the instrument casing (easy but can be tricky as you need to know which clip and points to undo. Press wrongly it may break)
3. To access the screws behind the speedometers and RPM indicator (now this is a "scary" part. It require you drill a white plastic base behind the round speedometer indicator at the precise point. I repeat PRECISE !. There are 4 holes if I'm not mistaken to be made. You cannot use a normal high speed drill as it is plastic. It will break. You must use a handheld drill that you can control the speed. There is one particular hole position at difficult angle)
4. After you drill the hole and remove the screw, then only you can remove the OBC module to access the ribbon.
5. Remove the old ribbon and clean the surface to get the full contact between the ribbon and the module.
6. To fix the new ribbon. (this one is tricky as well. Require lot of patient. You may have to do this many times to adjust the ribbon and test. To test you have to connect the cluster back to the car and switch on. You may still get some missing dots so need to clean the affected area and adjust again)
7. Once you are satisfied with the result from step 6, then everything else to to re assemble the cluster is rather easy.
8. Lastly put back the instrument cluster into the dash.

How does it sound? Ada berani? I think the whole process with take about 2 - 3 hours....easy ! I don't mean to scare you but don't under estimate the effort.

Over to you haywire for comment.
